8800 Ultra with VF1000+RHS88 Modding Question

Hi guys:

Have any of you installed a Zalman VF1000+RHS88 Ramsink on your 8800 Ultras?

I have a question regarding it:

I'm about to install the cooler in my 8800 Ultra Superclocked (KO) which has the back heatsink , and I want to do two modifications to it.

1) Remove the Zalman Fan that comes with the VF1000 and ziptie a 120mm fan on top of it just how this thread shows.

2) this is what I'm wondering about. I want to remove the thermal tapes on the RHMS88 ram heatsinks plate, and use AS5 or Zalman STG-1 instead.

Now this is the thing, I know that the thermal paste is not sticky as the tapes, but for the pictures I have seen, the entire RHS88 plate is actually screwed in the card along with the cooler itself.

I've read a post in here of a review in newegg. A guy named Blackdog I wnonder if that's exactly what he meant.

What do you guys think.... I know you are the experts and knowledgeables, any suggestion is extremely appreciated.

I'm not sure what Orion is talking about.

I have these on both of my 8800GTX's. They do the job, but aren't as good as an HR-03+ and a 92mm Fan.

In response to your question, yes the RHS-888 is screwed to the card along with the VF1000.

I think blackdog at newegg was referring to using the stick on memory coolers (The VF1000 comes with little blue stick on heatsinks), not the RHS-888.

I.E, use the RHS-888 with thermal paste vs the stick on ones that come with the VF1000.

8800 Ultra with VF1000+RHS88 Modding Question

Have tried this cooler on my 8800GTX and was displeased with it. I should have gone with the Thermalight HR-03 that is quite better; now I'll stick with liquid cooling even when I move this card, unmodded, to my secondary rig. I was expecting the VF1000 to provide OK temps for the card while it was not modded and it didn't (don't know how it does with the 120mm fan). Anyway, yes you can remove the thermal tapes and use thermal paste, but if you install the RHS88 plate you'll be unable to place the VF1000 on top of it, if you have previously removed the GPU heatspreader (I was forced to cut some parts of it to make it fit)
