hey, that's great and good to know--> now if I can just remember it, lol, to help other acer users......

also, if the repair doesn't work--> remember, you can try downloading a linux live disk like Ubuntu--it's an iso, so burn to disc w/ ImgBurn(under 2 MB)-the default setting "verifies" the burn against the ISO file-- or use nero and verify the burn. Then boot w/ the Ubuntu disk, run from the disk, and you can "explore" the drives/partitions on your pc. Most of the time you can see the folder "my documents", etc., and copy/burn to a backup usb flash drive, backup drive, etc. You can do this w/ almost any of your files from windows--> it works so well. And it's actually easier than it sounds.........

Well, I called Acer with a # I got online. They told me about the Alt key +
F10 key trick for "Acer eRecovery Management". They're also sending me a Recovery Disc and an Installation Disc. When I tried resetting with no discs, it did not work. I'll get the discs in 3-5 days and try again!

As far as i can tell, your installation files and .dll files have become corrupt.

You can reset your laptop back to factory setting easily. However, any programs that you have installed will be removed and any data that is stored on the "C:" drive or "Acer" drive will be lost.

To run this procedure, you need to boot the laptop and press "Alt + F10".
Keep hold of alt and repeatedly press F10 until the Acer recovery console appears. Then follow the instructions.

This will reinstall windows to the c: partition from the hidden Recovery partition.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

The Restore Points on Vista seem POINTLESS! I tried to set manually, wouldn't let me. Automatic Points...Arrhhh. I read it turns itself off for space. Shouldn't I be asked, or at least informed!

I'm not entirely sure what Startup Repair does... My laptop crashed and when I rebooted it asked me whether I wanted to try Startup Repair - so I did. It said it couldn't fix the problem though? Sounds a bit experimental if you ask me... You are probably better using more conventional ways to boot - Vista disc probably the best, but you don't have that - what about a hidden recovery partition? Check your manual maybe.
