Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
So which one of you thought that the ps3 did not need a price drop?
Anyone want to finally admit that they were wrong? I know that there is a lot of you. Or maybe you are too proud of yourself to confess?

It's highly likely that you are eligible for 100 refund, just ask the employees from wherever you got it from.

I was one of those people that argued Sony wasn't going to do it. It was just too big of a loss but they did it anyways. OTOH, from the moment I started saving up for it to the moment I purchased it, I always knew that it was needed. For about half that, I could buy a PC with a lot of horsepower with the capability of playing the new games like Hellgate London, Starcraft 2, and all that other stuff.

There wasn't any need of Price cut, instead they should have bundled Rumble controller and HD Cables with PS3.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
For how well built the PS3 is and what it consists of... no it didn't need a price drop.
But to compete with the 360, yes it did need a price drop.

Does it really matter?
In the end the price drop was a smart move, needed or not. Its got the PS3 back into the press and publics eye and its worked. Sales have gone up. Its just a question of "can they stay up"?

I have said this before, but I wholeheartedly believe that the PS3 was worth $600, the problem (imo) is that most people don't understand what they are getting for that amount of money; they see the price and think (wow 600 for a gaming machine).
They don't understand that it is and thought future updates will be, a home media station/center. All of the local stores here that sell electronics don't/didn't offer any Blu-Ray players for cheaper than $600. So this was a no brainer for me, also there are numerous possibilities in this machine since it is basically a gaming PC on steroids mainly in part due to the Cell processor.
It doesn't matter what I believe because all everybody sees is the price, the people that are smart enough to look beyond it, at the value and research this purchase shouldn't look back on this purchase, I know I haven't and won't.

I say the PS3 will be worth $500 around summer 08 but will probly be $400 by then.

Evident by the rush of sales in the last day, I think it is obvious that Sony did need to cut prices to get more PS3 owners at this time.

All I know is that I work at Circuit City. We had 12 PS3's sitting on thye floor the morning of the price drop. We sold all but two of those by the time the doors closed, and four of those purchases were associates, and not your average, stupid associates. These folks had resigned themselves to purchase one eventually but were balking until a price drop. This pushed them over the edge, and I'm guessing it did the same for others.

I always thought that the PS3 needed a price drop although I fully understand if it never got one until next year. This took me by suprise but this is only history repeating itself. Supposedly the PS1 launched at 399.99 but they dropped the price to 299.99 and that was when the PS1 really flew off the shelves. PS2 actually got it right and kept it at 299.99 for years before they dropped it to 199.99.
I bought mine in April/early May, paid 649 for it and I still think it's worth every penny. Worked very hard for it too and proud of it. I'm just sad that sole Xbox owners are still living in the past (even though MS is giving them the future of online) yet not everyone is hooked up online so some are still living in the stone-age. They also got this half-baked idea that Xbox 360 games have better graphics when it's been consistently said that PS3 games are virtually identical ports save for a few graphics adjustments here and there for an all around better look. First party games (which they cannot dispute) look amazing already, contain all the graphic effects they complain about, just all round look perfect yet they don't even give it any notice.

This is the same stance I've had. I still think it's worth every penny and
then some but I can admit something when I'm wrong and all I really needed was some convincing.

The boost in sales is just showing people were sitting with money in hand waiting on the fence to get their PS3...And now that its down, sales boomed on Amazon, and my Gamestop buddy said they cant hold on to them now that the price has dropped, the e-mail I got from him says they only have 3 left, and the Xboxes are full. Also he said they sold one 360 and 12 PS3s this morning alone before he got off shift. Good news for Sony.

I'll admit it when I'm wrong. I have clearly stated time and again that I thought the PS3 didn't need a price drop but I know now that I was wrong in my assumptions. I have no shame in retracting my previous statements in regards to a price cut. I just hope these increased sales trends continue the way they've been speculated.

Seriously anyone supporting that price tag saying "KEEP IT THAT WAY" is an ***. With that being said 100 dollars isn't enough 150-200 would have been much better and they're going to need to do it by the end of the year anyway.

I'll admit it.. I though the price drop would happen in Spring/Summer of '08..
Don't deny a man his confession..

I got the price break so I think it is great. And I got a extra controller for free. I am happy. Does anyone actually want to pay more for something? I would like next gen games to come down in price also. I never buy $60 games. All to soon, you will see them cheaper. Why not start at the sale price and get more buyers immediately?

I dont think it does. Do the math and shut your holes. Or simply get a better job.

I'm pleased with the price drop. I'm a UK launch day owner (I waltzed up to Virgin edinburgh and bought one) Even so, the more sold, the merrier!!!
Bring the price drop on, make them buy the best console on the market!!!

I think that if they were going to do a price drop this year, now (E3) was the best time.

|
Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
I think "no controller" would be a killer. I would see that as an insult to my intelligence as a buyer; I'd rather have a playable system for $50 more.

|
Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
Once you take into account inflation the PS3 was cheaper at launch than both the PS1 & PS2. ?300 when the PS1 came out was like paying ?600 now. But it was ground breaking and people paid it. Hold on the PS3 is groundbreaking and all they do is complain. Life is strange noone wants to pay for quality and value anymore. Just compare the whole package to any other console and you see where the value is. You want cheaper buy a PS2 you want advanced buy a PS3 stop whining.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
This thread doesn't make sense, of course it needed a price drop... actually it needs a few more to get to $199 for mass market appeal. I think you are confusing what it's worth and what a console should cost to get 100 million sales.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
It was fine the way it was, I mean look what you are getting! To get the same stuff on the 360 you would have to pay almost 2-300 dollars more than the PS3's original price.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
I didn't think it needed a price cut, and I still don't. I thought the $100 was a lot more than they would do, but its good for everyone. I think the $499.99 price tag for the 60GB is a great value, but I thought it was a good value at $599.99. Sure, dropping the price gets more sales, but that pretty much goes without saying as long as there is some demand for a product, so to say that an increase of sales is indicative of a price cut being necessary is a bit of a far stretch.
Really, right now, there isn't a whole lot available to use on the system to create the type of demand that would make your average gamer go buy the system. If I didn't have my PS3 already, I probably still wouldn't buy one myself. I think Sony could have kept the price and the systems would have sold when some hot games hit the market. If they can afford a price cut, then thats what they should do, its better for them and us. More power to Sony!

I see you're trying to make people say it was a wrong move, because of the way you call them "too proud of sony" to say otherwise, but I think different.
You can be proud of a company and have your own opinions, and personally, I think after the price drop [which as of now was an excellent move] won't matter too much in the near future, because MS WILL respond.
But as of now, I do think it was a nice move, and I'd soon like to see a steeper drop, to a sexy 399. =]
Any more or any less, for a 60 gig model is a bad move to present to general public.
I really think they should hit the market with a ps3 lite. Slap in the firmware emulation for previous ps2/ps1 titles in. Get in the 65 nm processor. 10GB of space, tops. Maybe a slimmer design, if they can manage. No wifi/flash card readers, and, just for that extra push: no controller
Sell it for 299 and they'll fly.

i was happy with the price of ps3 ?425.But i understand kids out there who have been reading in magazines for a few years about the ps3 and all the great games who would do anything to own a ps3 but cant afford one because ?425 is a lot of money to many kids and adults

I think it was needed; I'm just surprised Sony's willing to take the hit. This does not bode well, given their multiple statements previously that there would be no price cut, and that they didn't see a need.
I hope this means they're gonna be more on their game now.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
man there is nothing wrong with the price cuts, it is good for the gaming world as a whole....i am tired of people trying to bring down various systems.....both the 360 and the ps3 are good systems which appeal to different gamers.....it is healthy to have competition.....who cares about the timeframe of the price cut no one complained when the 360 cut its price....

I'll admit I thought $100 was not enough if that makes you happy.

Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
I dont care if it was 600 still, i would buy it, but yes its better for sony more sales
|
|
Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
The way I see it is my $599 console is now worth $499 within 4 months of my purchase.
My console has sat and done nothing really in this time as none of the games I have appeal to me at all, so I would have been better off waiting.
Not pissed off just dont really care lol
|
|
Who thought ps3 didnt need price drop
yes the price drop was needed to sell more consoles. otherwise were not gonna get many exclusives or we are gonna get a bunch of ports. the more units they sell the more game devs will notice the ps3.
