Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

Upon visiting Windows Update or Microsoft Update I receive an error msg that
states:

Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed
on your computer. To continue:
Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem

So I click on Continue while using the Recommended setting, and after the
browser downloads and registers it's software automatically, it re-routes to
the same webpage to register or reinstall the files.

I have searched numerous help sites before posting on this newsgroup.
I was told to re-register msxml3.dll which fixes most problems. However I
was unable to register using "regsvr32 msxml3.dll" (without the quotes of
course) since I receive an error:
DllRegisterServer in msxml3.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80070005. This
happens whether I use it before or after the command: net stop wuauserv.

I have searched and found nothing new regarding the above mentioned error.
Every site suggests to re-register msxml3.dll. I am unable to do that.

Another thing I've noticed is that when IE 6 re-routes me to the page where
I have to register or reinstall files, it goes through a page that has the
url with error number 2146827859. I have searched errors regarding this for
Windows Update and found out that it refers to
0x800A01AD -2146827859 ActiveX component can''t create object.
However this does not have the same Regsvr32 error code.

I am running Windows 2000 SP4. I have managed to install all updates upto
month of October.

Please help me figure out how to fix this problem without having to
reinstall anything.

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

I am running Windows 2000 and when I right click on any of the items in the
registry it doesn't have an option for permissions. Is there any other way
that this may be fixed? Thanks in advance

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

Regedt32 showed EVERYONE as the only User and it was checked to allow all
tasks. Even though I changed it to have Administrators and System to have
Full Control, still the same problems.

The problem that arises is when I try to update Windows through Microsoft's
Window's update. The problem may arise from something else other than
Msxml.dll file not being registered. Is there anything else I should do?
Once again here is the error message that I get when I try to update.

Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered
or installed on your computer. To continue:

Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the
problem

Thank you again for trying to help.

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

Use this guide to ensure that
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CFC399AF-D876-11d0-9C10-00C04FC99C8E}
has Full and Read permissions. There's an example for running command
lines on the below page -

How to change registry values or permissions from a command line or a script
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264584

You can also try to install the latest version of the MSXML 3.0 parser
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
BUT, if the Perms are not set correctly, it too, will fail to install.

Permissions are set. I even installed the MSXML 3.0 Parser. I still receive
the same error when I try to register msxml3.dll or when I try to update my
version of Windows 2000 on Microsoft's Windows Update page.

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

Yet a New Issue.
I am now Unable to download any tools including the resource kit for Win2K.
Here is the error.

Validation Incomplete: Internet Connection Problem
[0x80080293]
Why didn't my machine complete validation?
Your validation may not have succeeded due to the following
Internet connection issue.
a.. The Windows Genuine Advantage Tool requires Internet
access and is unable to communicate with the Microsoft validation servers.

I do have internet connection otherwise I wouldn't have gotten to this
page.
When I clicked on Continue for Windows Genuine Validation, it took me
to the error above.
I hope someone would help me out in this issue.
Thanks.

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

Please copy and paste the last 30-40 lines of the WindowsUpdate.log into
your reply. It's located in the WINNT directory (folder).
Then we can see if there is an " internet connection problem ".

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

I don't know if this helps, but I'm having the same issue (MSXML3.DLL not
registering) with Windows Media Center Edition 2005 on a fresh install. I'll
give the last bit of advice a try and see if that helps.

Windows Update and msxml3.dll Problems. Please help

First, verify that the "COM+ Event System" service is not disabled or
not functioning:

Go to Start > Run , and then run this command:

services.msc

Locate the "COM+ Event System" entry, and double click on it. Startup
type should be set to "Manual", and if the service is not already
running, press the Start button to see if it starts successfully.
IF not, please see -

How to clean up a damaged COM+ catalog
