1906 - turns itself off & flashes red light

I have had my 1906 for about 6 weeks now and have really enjoyed having surround sound (having never had this before). Two nights ago I while watching TV, the system just turned itself off, with the standby light flashing red. In the manual it says this is either due to overheating or short circuit from bad speaker connections.

I do not think it is overheating and have tried to reconnect the speaker cables (which is really fiddly and hard to get the exposed wires all the way in to the plugs), but it still switches itself off after 3 mins or so.

Not sure why it should suddenly happen after 6 weeks of no problems? Anyone else had this problem?

Any advice appreciated.

check the whole length of the speaker cables, there may be a short circuit happening somewhere other than at the amp end.
also try a system reset of the microprocessor, you will find instructions on how to do it in the manual.

Thanks. I will have a look along the cables and also try the reset. I also spoke to Denon who suggested that I should try with banana plugs to make sure I get the wires connected properly. Although they say I may have shorted the system and need to take it to get fixed. Hope the reset sorts it.

If it was bad speaker connections it would have done it straight away - not after 6 weeks - dont let Denon start taking you for a ride!

A quick and easy test would be to disconnect the speakers and inputs and turn it on - if it turns off after 3 minutes then it's overheating internally and is faulty.
This is fairly common on Denons as far as I can tell - my 2105 is factory reconditioned and the fault sheet in the box described your problem.
