Question "the operating system denied access to the specified file" ( Ubuntu Forums Installation Upgrades )
Updated: 2008-05-19 01:07:51 (7)
"the operating system denied access to the specified file"

Good day,

I downloaded the Ubuntu Os - warty-release-live-i386.iso,
and burned it to cd. If I double click on the cd it comes up with a message
"the operating system denied access to the specified file"

When I booted the computer with the cd in, settings so that the cd drive boots first, nothing happens it just as usual comes to the windows o/s select screen.

How do I Run the Live Cd...i've got a fairly new computer with new hardware. The current os is Win xp professional.

I'm eager to find an answer....Cheers

You have to burn the .iso as in image, not just copy it to the disc.

A good burning app like Nero demo or Alcohol 120% will do this to you on Windows.
Also burn at slow speeds like 8 or 12 . Live disc will be constantly reading the less you want is the disc to choke .

And welcome to the forums mister .

I used alcohol 120 to burn the cd. I think it is an image.

It was burnt at it's quickest speed

Thanks very much!

If you load the cd on xp , do you read several files or just an .iso file ?
Make sure you burned an image.

Also upon restarting make sure in your PC' s BIOS setup you have load from disc first in boot parameters.

Last but not least, insert the disc with the funny letters facing up in the tray .

If I right click on the cd and "explore" it has files
Base, bin, boot, copy, deb, disctree, exec, mainmod, programs, autorun.inf, md5sums.txt, strt.exe, start.ini......there isn't an .iso file.

I will try rebooting it again.
Is windows xp deliberately stopping me from using the cd?

No its not smart enough to do so.
Also this happens prior windows boot, so anything fishy and your BIOS setup is to blame. Can you boot off an windows disc ? If you cant neither, bios setup;.

it actually isnt that amd thing. something weird is with your disc.
i suggest you redownload -386 or amd64] version trough bittorrent so it constantly checks its integrity .
