How to uninstall Shockwave?

Hi,

I download some files, from the Windows Update feature, called "shockwave" and "flash." Everytime I have tried to access a web site that uses these files I get a message that I don't have the latest versions. OK, so I download them, and then they don't end up in the correct place in the computer (c:\windows\system\macromed), as there are no instuctions on how to install them.

I finally decided that I just want to remove them from the computer and forget about trying to install them. How do I remove them? Some of the information in the "macromed" folder was installed during the initial factory installation from Dell.

I have Norton's Cleensweep, will this remove them without removing the system files?

Thanks,
Marti Porterfield

How to uninstall Shockwave?

Hi Marti,
If I understand your Question the answer is yes, you can uninstall most anything that you want to with Cleansweep. But I really don't understand exactly why that you want to uninstall the application. There are a number of sites which use Shockwave & Shockwave Flash to produce their Web site and I must say that the effects are "out of sight". Uninstalling the software to read these sites would only limit your broswing experience. I have found that obtaining an application from a third party can sometimes produce the problems that you are seeing. If Shockwave is causing you problems, which would be very unlikely since it is one of the more stable applications out there, I would by all means uninstall it. The problems would most likely be caused by a bad download or bad install. Whether you uninstall or not, I would recommend to go directly to www.macromedia.com choose downloads then Shockwave & Flash then follow the instructions on getting the current versions of these applications. That will overwrite what you already have and give you the current version.

PS My Shockwave files are located on the root in C:\Shockwave

How to uninstall Shockwave?

Steve,

I wanted to remove it because I could get it downloaded and then could never install it.

Going to macromedia.com downloaded it and installed it properly.

Thanks,
