my F drive is gone

Now that I have your attention, yes, my F drive has literally disappeared, it is the drive for my cd-rom. When I click on My computer, I have a,c,d,& e, but no f. I have gone into systems on my control panel and looked, but when I have an option to choose a drive letter for my cd-rom, the choice box is empty and will not accept a letter. HELP!!

my F drive is gone

Thanx for responding, I ended up talking to dell tech on the phone. He wants me to get a windows 98 start up disk, my computer won't boot to the 95'disk I have. I found a strange thing on my address bar when I was on the internet after I hung up with dell....a different page at the beginning with an A in the lower left hand corner, then"file ///F:/". What the heck, I found my "F", but how did it get there?? I'll check back on Sunday. Thanx again

Bobbi,
In Device Manager under +CDROM is your drive recognized? Also what is "D" & "E"? If you can get to Properties/Setting for your CD-Rom, have you tried putting "F" in both Start and End drive letter box? Have you recently done a BIOS flash? Under Advanced / IDE Per. may have defaulted to (None) which would need to be set to (Auto). Are you using Tweak UI, My Computer tab make sure all the letters for drives are checked. If 'D" and "E" are not partitions, see if you can kick their letters down a notch, then assign CD-Rom to "D" Start/End. Click OK, computer should ask to restart. After re-boot check to see if all drives are assigned letters. If so, repeat the steps and now select the letter for the drive you prefer.
Let us know if any of this is relevant.
