XPS Alert Audio Cable not connected

I recently received my XPS 730. I experienced sound problems with the X-FI Extreme Music Soundcard, crackles etc so I decided to use the Realtel Onboard sound. I enabled it in the Bios and downloaded and applied the drivers from the Dell website. I disabled the X-FI in System Devices. All is working fine except at boot up I get this message :-

Alert! Audio cable not connected. Press F1 to continue or F2 to enter set up.

When I hit F1 it boots up normally and the sound is perfect. I would just like to know how to get rid of the message at boot. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Did you change the front I/O cable from the sound card to the motherboard? Since you are now using the intergrated sound it may be looking for this connection.

Thanks for the reply, I haven't opened the machine yet, it is as supplied by Dell a couple of days ago. Is that what I would need to do to remove the error message.? I hoped it would be just a matter of switching between the X-Fi and Realtek, I did not think it would require any additional cabling, thanks again for your help.

there is a cable that runs from the front panel I/O assembly to the soundcard/Motherbord depending on your configuration. this enables you to use the front panel mic and headphone jacks.
