|RAM upgrade 5150 1G is x8 and 256 is x16 is there difference|
I bought some 1G Kingston RAM and finally installed it. So now I have 2 - 1G sticks and 2 - 256Mb sticks for 2.5 gigs of RAM. Works great so far but what's the difference?
In the BIOS the 1Gsays x8 organization and the 256 is x16 organization. Is there a speed difference?
The 1G's are Kingston DDR2 667MHz (says compatible 667MHz PC5400, 533MHz PC4300)
The 256Mb's are samsung 1Rx16 PC2 4200U - 444 -12 - c3 DDR2 533MHz.
So is there any major differences between x16 or x8 configuration? Can someone please explain?
Should I remove the 256? Seems to run faster (I have a ton of stuff on my desktop) but would it run even faster without 256? I would think the x16 is faster than x8 but maybe not.
Any help would be appreciated.
