Just Starting Your Design

I had a member tell me that it took 4 mins to load my site. Could I get some other member to look at my site and let me know how long it took and what connection speed you are using.

I checked it on both dsl and dial up it took 3 secs on dsl and only 32 secs on dial up, so I dont understand what he is saying.

Thanks in advance

Site To Time

It took 35 seconds on 28 dialup but I have flash disabled. If it were running it would take a lot longer. Consider reducing the size of the thumbnails - they are too big.

A bigger problem for me than load time is the fact that width exceeds even a 1024 x 768 window! A scrollbar at that resolution is unacceptable IMO and at 800 x 600 it would be pure torture to even read the cross-screen text which really needs some margins or padding.

Then there is the coding . . . whatever program you used should find it's way to the trash ASAP! There is incredible bloat here which is partly responsible for the load time. And here's a tip . . . if you only set one font - Harrington - it is unlikely it will display correctly for many viewers. I know I don't have this one installed. Never even heard of it.

As to content . . .

4 minutes is bull****.

Took about 10 sec.

took me like 2-3 seconds
i see that you redid the site making progress!

however I would agree that the thumbnails are too big...
and the side might be too wide for many people....
you might want to wrap the navigation onto 2 rows, or switch back to vertical nav.

On what connection? And mind the language.

I've re-timed it yet again. In another browser so nothing is cached. Still takes ove 3.5 minutes. Sure the text shows up quickly enough, but those photos are taking forever to load.

Edit:

I've realised that was loading with your 'pop-under' ads. Your site surely gives me a lot of trust...

i dont get any pop-unders....

but I agree you should remove them if you are using them!

I didnt think I has pop under ads. I never put non on there. I dont even know how to do that stuff....lol

I am using FP 2003 which I have heard alot of bad things about.

I will fix the large thumbnails and width asap.

Thanks for all input.

The thumbnail size they're referring to is the fact that the images themselves are full size. They should be able to be viewed without setting the height/width and be seen as a actual thumbnail. For example,

Before
http://www.intimateexpressionslinger...older/4508.JPG
File size: 32.55 KB
Load time on 28.8: 16 sec

After
http://www.apostlestudios.com/Intima...gerie/4508.jpg
File size:5.85 KB
Load time on 28.8: 3 sec

If you don't have the image software to resize things. I'd be willing to help for a fee.

Thanks for the input and offer.

I cannot afford a fee so I am trying to do it all by myself with trial and error. I used the thumbnails they gave me with the files for the images. Using larger pics for when you go into "look at fullsize"

I do know how to make them smaller usinf photoshop but that is alot of pictures to resize....lol

What exactly does this mean?

if you post a zip file of all the pictures, im sure someone (including myself), would be happy to batch resize all of them for you for free.
I am about to head to my family's for the holidays, but I'll be back online later tonight. I would be happy to resize them for you.

ps- i mainly use Fireworks, but I am sure photoshop has a "batch" feature just like Fireworks does... that allows you resize many pictures at once.

Ah, trying to make me look bad. jk, I do that by myself.

I'll do it for free too then. I guess I just gotta learn how to act with each board.

I didn't know if I'd piss people off by doing something for free. I don't want to be the outsider and looked down on ya know?
