Question What fonts are best for web page ( SitePoint Forums Just Starting Your Design )

What fonts are best for web page

I like the look of Verdana. Is that a good choice?

Also, why when I highlight, copy, paste text from a web page into MS Word or MS Frontpage why does it sometimes change the font?

I copied a font that was sans serif to Word and Frontpage and it changed to Times New Roman (it wasn't that font before).

thanks.

Yup, Verdana or Tahoma are good base fonts.

What editor are you copying the text to?

Hello

Yeah I think most people have Verdana installed on their comps. I use it some.

I copy to both MS Word and Frontpage and it changes the font from sans-serif to serif.

Matter of fact, I copied the text of my first post into Frontpage and Word and it shows that it is Times New Roman.

Sorry - I wasn't reading carefully. I always assumed that was because of what your default font is set to in MSWord.

Hmm, If I'm understanding the question correctly, the answer is really simple. When you select and copy text from a page you're viewing you're copying it without the formatting. And when you paste it in word (unless you use the paste special command) it gets converted to the document's current font.
btw - I too vote for Verdana. Hell, I'm writing in verdana right now

Yes, you are understanding correctly.

I thought that is what was happening (the font I was copying gets pasted at WORD's current font) but I have noticed that I can paste several different fonts that were copied from different web pages and they don't all display at WORD's current font.

Maybe it's that I don't have the font installed in WORD that I have copied from the web page....but I don't think that is it.

Hmmmmmmm.

Tohoma is my font of choice, but I think arial is fine too (even if it is a little overused).

Verdana, Trebuchet, or Arial. Georgia for something a little more contemporary.

I like Verdana and Arial, most of the time its just what goes best with the flow- at least IMO.

Only IE preserves the text formatting, other browser copy as plain text.

That doesn't explain why when I paste the text that I copied in IE into MS Word or Frontpage that the fonts change.

You didnt say it was IE. I would guess the site is utilising a font you dont have on your system and so IE is using its default font. Now when you copy the text Word cant naturally find this font too and uses his own default font. However there might be dozens of other explanations as well.

I like Veranda the most, after that Arial

Why use a font at all? Why not let the user-defined font take over?
