expanding tables

I have a basic 3 column site laid out in tables. I set the 1st and 3rd to fixed a fixed width since they contain graphics, however the middle column is at 100% to expand and contract.

It works on my home computer and in Anybrowser.com, however, my computer at work doesn't contract to fit the screen and I still end up with the horizontal scroll bar.......

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....I'm going nuts trying to figure this out.....

As far as I know, and I am quite sure that someone here will correct me, if you have set the first and third column, you do not need to set the second. It will simply take the remaining space available. Plus, I find a little bit confusing that you set the second to 100% since it will never be true.

You also need to check in which browsers work as well. If you are using IE at home and at work, they might be different versions?

Don't know. Just some ideas here.

I would not specify any widths for your outside columns, they don't need it they will automatically resize to the size of the graphic that's in there.

The 100% width in the center cell should work - I use this method quite a lot.

Maybe you can post a link to the problem page, so we can take a look.

I think it will be the best to set the table width to 100% instead of setting the center column, stay the 1st and 3rd columns with the fixed size, then you'll have the center column changing size dynamically.

A table-less 3 column CSS layout is the way to go. Check out the 3 column CSS forum. Paul O'B really knows his stuff and might be able to help you out.
