Hey all

My girlfriend is just finishing something called "Breaking Dawn" about love and vampires (I dunno not into romance novels). But she was talking about the couple in the book being immortal, and I got me thinking. Would any of you choose to be immortal?

Note: I MEAN IMMORTAL, IMMORTAL NOT VAMPIRE IMMORTAL (IMMORTAL BUT HAVE TO DRINK BLOOD AND STAY OUT OF SUNLIGHT FOR THE REST OF YOUR ETERNITY)

Why would you be immortal? fear of death? Don't want to grow old?

Me I would like to be immortal, to see how humanity grows and shapes the future, whether we annihilate ourselves or travel beyond this planet.

Who would want to die? If you can live forever without any pain or misery, I think anyone will take it, will suck though if bad things happen to you continuously and you just can't end your life...I don't know, I would love being immortal

but what I wouldn't want is to be totally immortal (i wouldn't want to age, I'd want me wounds to heal and such) but I don't want to be alive when the world ends, I don't want to be floating in space forever lol

I can't remember what show/cartoon it was but a guy got to be immortal but he still aged to like 90 and stayed there/was constantly sick and generally pissed off.

If I could look the same and be completely immune to any physical harm, then yes. If I could be injured or maimed but not die, then definitely not.

Immortality would be boring, plus it would mean i would have to watch everyone around me that i care about die, all while i live on. Now if EVERYONE was immortal...................................why not?

I would want to be immortal. Still in order to obtain immortality you would have to give up a lot. Everybody you know would die and you would be alone. That would kind of suck.

No. To live as the centuries pass, to see what humanity can accomplish seems appealing at first, but even so it will become a curse more than a blessing. The people you love will all grow old and die, and you will continue to drudge on, knowing that you will never see them again. You would eventually become so withdrawn that you would let any get close to you (emotionally that is). You would become a shadow on the pages of time… alone…friendless…forever… a living hell.

i don't know. immortality has it's drawbacks though it depends on your def on immortality. Matter changes one form or another you can still die by means of total dematerilaztion. destruction of every atom in your body. Thats a hard question. if it's for a purpose then yes but i rather live a long time not total immortality.

That's strange. If it's the same book, then my girlfriend's also obsessed with the series (I juts call it the apple book because there's a apple on the cover of the first book LOL.) Anyways, I don't thikn I would be able to do that. Well, it depends on plenty of factors. Are my loved ones immortal as well? I know I can make new friends, but can yuo imagine having a new set of friends every decade? And losing your old ones?

Longer than a 100 years, sure. I just think that living forever would also be awful, seeing your loved ones fade away.. your girlfriend die while you stay young and alive. I think I'd get really sick of life, so I want to die at some point. I might not mind living a lot longer if I didn't age. But I'd never want to live forever.

Now there's something I agree with. It would be amazing to travel time to know what the future holds or get a first person accout on some moments in history... of corce I'd have to be carfull to make sure I didn't accedently change the timeline and come back to a world filled with mutant bees or something like that.

why? i dont know.. i could experience everything i am not going to be able to experience in one lifetime.. cause quite simply, some stuff is too damn expensive.. immortality would allow me the chance to explore every inch of the planet.. even space potentially.. those space probes they send to the edge of the galaxy? i could travel with it... if there was life out there, id be there to find it..

Like any situation, there are pros and cons, but here the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Id love to just to see the future achievements of mankind like if they will ever make a time machine,humans living in space colonies all that good stuff you see in the video games

too many factors...do i have to eat, if i lose a limb im assuming its gone...can i get a disease and go through the symptoms and just not die....do i have to breath air...but generally speaking, yes. yes i would like to be immortal.

i dont see myself watching other peoples lives like most old people do, and it just becomes painful to live around the end of your 50s, you have to stretch/run everyday and take a shitload of pills, plus you have to be careful that you dont break anything because it will never be the same.

human mind is not meant to live that long, they did a study on this. you would probably just go insane and or break down into a personality structure where you would isolate yourself and basically live as a hermit.
