More Spam This time via PM System

Received this today from Chronicles:

Hi Wayne Luke -

Have you joined Orkut.com yet? It's Google's networking program - I thought it would be nice to invite you if you're not already there.

If you're interested could you send me an e-mail address via PM and I'll get you in. It's invite only, you see, and I'm inviting some of the SitePoint members over.

Best regards,

Brian
I didn't ask to be part of some Google networking program, haven't expressed interest in being part of a Google networking program. Heck, I am not really interested in Google themselves. So why should I constantly be subjected to spam from this site? First it was contact through email, then from the owners of the site, now in the PM system.

I think it was just a friendly invitation to join Orkut. Other than ownership, there's not much affiliation between Orkut (a social network site) and Google.

It's not a friendly invite, it's mass mailing, I got it too!

I guess that's another story then.

Wayne, don't you wish you still had Admin powers?

Sometimes, but what I want to do with my life and career and the market of user's that Sitepoint wants to cater to are different now so I don't think it would be a good match.

Somehow I get the impression that you didn't leave on the friendliest-of-possible terms.

Isn't that. The Sitepoint team wants to target their work towards the web designer/developer with minimal overlap into other areas. For me there is too much investment for the return in this area.

Personally, I am not interested in working 16 hour days, 7 days a week to make a living. I would rather work 12 hours a day 5 days a week and make a living. So I am changing fields and moving into retail. For me it is more satisfying work to be out among the people and interacting on a daily basis than working at home moving strings around on a computer.

Now the only websites I really have to work on are my own and they are secondary to the rest of the business. Even then a good portion of the work is through completed scripts and contracted design.

We were floored when Wayne announced his departure to the staff. It was a very sad day.
