has anyone played this yet?? any opinions ?? i noticed it was for sale in my local games shop for 30 pounds.

Yes ive played it, my housemate surprised me with this as an early birthday present

Largely the reviews on the net are right the game looks great, they have just dumped the models from the film into the game so they look amazing, transforming for the first time does bring a smile to my face (and an achievement ), the environments are super destructive, and battles are suitably epic with explosions and all the eye candy.

There are two campaigns Autobots, with seems to largely consist of "drive from A to B before he does" or "Destroy those robots", they mix it up making you chase things and giving you different reasons but its essentially the same. For the Decepticon campaign the focus appears to be "Cause as much destruction as possible" Decepticons are largely planes so playing them and flying around is quite neat. I haven’t played a lot of that campaign so couldn't tell you if that’s the same all the way through.

The only thing about this game is its repetitive, same mission types, same melee combo moves, same boss mechanics.

Technically as I said the game looks lovely, the camera does have some issues It can be hard to control, the robots animate really well, it’s a pity they didn’t have a few more moves.

Now im a HUGE transformers fan (sit me in front of the 1986 movie and I WILL recite the lines all the way through) so I can quite happily put up with its problems to simply play with robots, to be honest for me transforming never gets old.

Also you unlock bonus cont 3E38 ent like clips/trailer and images from the upcoming film, but ever better you can unlock the G1 characters to play with! That alone makes it for me.

For someone who doesn’t love the franchise it might be hard to look past its flaws, but like all movie tie in games a love of the material generally helps.

Just dont expect too much mate if you happy playing with robots in largely reptitive scenarios and you really like Transformers then you will get some enjoyment, if thats not you then probably give it a miss or rent it.

Again im incredibly biased when it comes to transformers, so take what i say in that context.
