I played a lot of JRPG's on my PS2 but I'm sure I missed some...

I liked a lot:
rogue galaxy
valkyrie profile2
FFX

so yeah something like that would be cool....

They are great, but (and this might turn off some people) the main focus of the game is on combat. There are very few areas where you won't have random encounters, so the game is exhausting in that you never get to stop and smell the roses.

One big positive though, are the cutscenes. Honestly, this game has pretty much the best cutscenes in the history of cutscenes ever made into cutscenes! They are just gorgeous, and you'll love every second of them.

I found myself just fighting through dungeons just to get to the cutscenes. Which are awesome by the way. Did I mention the cutscenes?

You don't use X fo casting magic. Although Kingdom Hearts dosen't have the best system it's all up to prefrence on how you play.

I own both Digital Devil Sagas and Nocturne but haven't opened them yet. Nocturne and DDS1 had a reprint so it's easier to find. Heard they are great games, but been too busy with Persona 3 to get to them

Digital Devil Saga is fun and not as expensive as it used to be. Both games took me a few months to beat. (Though I did play other games between them...)

I've got to say that this game is really for the hardcore only. It doesn't hold your hand at all. I own Nocturne too, but still haven't played it. I hear that it's supposed to be even harder.

I still recommend them though. Casual gamers need not apply.

Persona 3: FES would be a great choice, since not only is it great but it will get you ready for Persona 4 which will be out in a few months.

I suggest any kind of Atlus, Square Enix, or Nippon Ichi RPG.

Some people apparently don't know what a JRPG is. If it's an RPG that's from Japan it's a JRPG. If you want to get more specific in defining a game then you use terms like Turn-based RPG, Action-RPG, Strategy/Tactical-RPG, ect.

Kingdom Hearts is an Action-RPG btw.

It's a JTRPG if you will lol.

This is what I don't get. It's an RPG. It's Japanese. What other qualifications should a "Japanese RPG" have?

I dont get the point in an game having 100+ game hours. I mean, does these kind of games have enough content to keep you interested for over 100 hours?
As for myself i think 20-40 hours is plenty enough time for an rpg game.

No it's not. You obviously don't know what RPG is.
Kingdom Hearts does have RPG elements but those don't make this game RPG. It is hack&slash game with some RPG elements that's what it is. No way it is JRPG and not even close.

Now about great JRPGs on PS2, there are very little of those:
FFX, Suikoden 3, Suikoden 5.

Good ones:
Star Ocean: Till the end of time, FFX-2 (if you don't mind funny games), Shadow Hearts Covenant, Suikoden 4, Atelier Iris (Mana Khemia) games (again if you love alchemy), Ar Tonelico, some I probably forgot to mention.

Controversial ones:
FF12, Xenosaga I-III, Shadow Hearts 3, Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, Persona 3 and some others.

As for Disgaea mentioned earlier - it's TRPG, not JRPG.

You can't be more wrong. And it isn't your fault. Simply Western gaming community fail to see what is JRPG in most cases. JRPG isn't any game reminding somewhat RPG and made in Japan. Nothing like that. Just this name replaced console-style RPGs, because these were mostly made in Japan. But JRPG is subgenre of RPG same as ARPG, TRPG, WRPG, SRPG, etc.
So basically no, ARPG isn't JRPG just because it's made in Japan, same goes for TRPG.
I know it's confusing, and if you aren't that "old" gamer you simply don't know history behind the terms. Also I prefer JRPG term over console style RPG too, just because it's shorter, although it creates funny situation when some games made not in Japan get called JRPGs, anyway if CRPGs wouldn't had ment computer RPGs at the same point in prehistorical times, we would be calling JRPGs C(onsole style)RPGs now.

Go pick up Odin Sphere!! Its an awesome combination of a beat em up/jrpg!
