Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

I am not bashing ps3. I had all 3 consoles, sold my wii after e3 but made 50 bucks(yeah... its great) so not complaining about that.

Now with that statement out of the way. Can some one show me why are we ps3 owners hyped about little big planet?

After seeing so many stage demo about the game, the whole impression i got is its a basic platformer, with ability to costume your character's look(micro transaction? anyone?) And you can make your own level and share.. wait i think sony actually said you cant share but you can only purchase those levels.

So the gameplay looked rather basic. though the physics part is pretty cool. but besides that its like any other platformers minus any power-ups. The graphic is pretty nice too. But again the long argument of graphic vs gameplay.

Then the developer constantly say that blah blah is possible to be made by a player... yeah creat your own content is great.. but if most content is gonna be created by the player, then why did we pay for this game? A 60$ purchase so i can make levels for a game with mediocore game-play? Sure i can see it being a great slide-show presentation tool( which i doubt my boss will be happy if i used it for my next talk) But besides that i dont see my self wanting to play a game just to make levels and then replay through them. I want a game that have a story or addictive game-play.

The only reason i can think of to make levels for a game is to let others say how good of a level i made... but now that sony said each user created level will be charged, how many people would buy the levels i made?

I really want to have more good games to look forward to, 1 other fps and another next year just cant get me through this holiday season. I am already kind xbox biased, really dont want to turn into a xbox fanboy. So if there are anything else i am missing thats great about lttle big planet. let me know pls

thanks

Edite: just learned they have to approve the levels for it to become purchasable.. which means the good levels are gonna cost money to get.. great...

no matter how many contents are in the box, if the game play is boarder-lined boring, its gonna suck...

So you don't like platformers, you haven't done any research, you don't have any imagination... and you want us to convince you? Fuck off mate, no one cares.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

all levels wil be free.
I do not really like platformers, as they all seem to talk about innovation and never seem to have variation. But I love the look of LBP because of how customised the Entire expieience is. I love making levels on halo 3 and N+, but there just aren't enough options. with LBP, the possibilities are endless, and there will be endless ammounts of content for download (very small files too) in a youtube like system which allows you to download the newest and best ones easily without the crap ones in the way. online co-op sounds nice, but i don't know many people on PSN yet.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

it loks alright

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

Sure the game won't be for everyone but the op said it all in his original post. Saying he is looking forward to another fps. Don't get me wrong I love fps games but there's far too many these days and that's why I'm excited about LBP.
When I first watched demos I too was concerned that the levels would be too basic but recent footage has certainly proved me wrong. I'm certain there will be masses of decent content once people get there creative head on. Combine that with 4 player online and online rankings and leaderboards and we have potentially one of, if not the most fun games of this gen.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

overcomplicating things doesn't make a game better... why do people want to break their fingers whilst playing? I like that they keep it basic but add innovation in other ways, like creating your own levels - basically creating your own game! and that's just it. you don't need more. you don't need some stupid storyline to fit the game. either you go for the adult-themed person-trapped-in-a-toy-must-find-a-way-to-get-human-again story, which doesn't speak to the young ones. or you have a kids-toys-come-alife-and-help-the-kid-to-fight-evil-stepmom-kinda story, which again doesn't speak to the older masses. so why not CREATE (keyword, keyword!) your own little story and put it out there?

isn't that, what this game is about? (so, no, it's not about jumping on platforms, even though, this is enough for me, since there hasn't been a nice platformer for years!)

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

This game has like the simplest, deepest toolset out there. Its good enough to make tons of levels that will be shipped with the final version on the game and easy enough to use that my little 5 year old sister wouldn't have problems making something she wanted to make.

And the guy talking about Stephen Fry narrating, he'll be doing the tutorial mode, which has 60 parts to help you refine your skills and teach you new ones. 60! That's amazing!

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

alright. you dont just make levels out of generic Pre-made items. you can create your own items from Wheels, materials, shapes...pictures. you can recreate Famous tales like the Illiad or Homer and MAKE IT INTO A FREAKING VIDEOGAME. I personally don't get how you could be disappointed in it....it should only be boring if you have no creativity. you can do WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT (-violence) IN THIS GAME!!!!!! that is what draws people in....cause I just don't feel like playing anymore...I wanna Play, create, share

ok, here is the deal with buying stuff. if you are mind boggeling good at making crazy creative levels, and your levels get a lot of hits, Media Molecule will ask you if you want to create a level that people can buy (for most likely less than an american dollar each) then you send your new level in to MM and if they aprove it.......you can get your level put on there. and you get 10% (or something like that) of the revenue from the level put into your PSN account. and other developers (like insomniac) can make a ratchet and clank themed level that has content that you otherwise couldn't have made (like a clank back pack) and once you buy that content...you get the extra stuff (like clank =) with it

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

TBH I don't think that holes in the floor one was a level in the game. I think it was just something fun that someone created. They just used it as an example that the games not all just left to right.

There will be a story mode. There will be bosses. Stephen Fry will be narrating parts of the game (this may be the creation tutorials).

I guess sometimes there's nothing else to say. Some people just don't understand the game and the sheer endless possibilities in creating levels.

Here watch these 2 vids:

See the way the descending level was created by a user called Frida the Bride.

Platformers will always be a part of video gaming.

LBP is a throwback to the Marios and Megamans.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

Marios been jumping around for years and he makes trillons! This is just old-school mario but with boss battles, more lvls and online, all of which YOU can customize!

Oh well maybe i am just so used to the more high profile cinematic games we get now a day. jumping around dodging things just no longer as fun as it was back in the mario days.
i think u should play the game yourself before you decide how fun it is.

You got it wrong, there will be milions free levels, good ones, the user that is really really good at making them and had made like bunch of free good levels will have a chance to charge for his next level... And it's a platformer, go from A to B... but the thing is, there will be bunch of different challenges to go from A to B which will only depend on peoples imagination...

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

Well first of all we won't be paying for levels that was just something that could potentially happen. At launch all levels will be free but if it's popular enough they may get the best creators (or other game designers) to make content that you may have to pay for (expect an amazing level as good or better than the levels in the game for little money).

Second they say that most of the game will be made by the player. But that doesn't mean that the game is small! There are 50-60 levels in the game. That's more than most other level-based 2D platformer I've ever played!

So right there's 50-60 levels, each of which will take 10-15 minutes to complete probably. So you're talking at least 10 hours of gameplay in the story mode which isn't half bad. Some levels could take 20 minutes too, they haven't shown a full level playthrough in quite a while.

When they sorta give you the impression that most content will be made by players, they are just showing the amount of content that will be created. Millions of people will buy this game and probably make eventually 100,000 to millions of levels, many of which will be original and very fun to play. A lot of people use the analogy of the youtube of gaming and I think it should give you an idea of what we're talking about.

And on top of that you can easily create your own content (with online co-op if you wish) and publish it online for everyone else to play and enjoy.

Does that answer some of your concerns?

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

its a game where the only limits are when u run out of ideas

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

The gameplay looks awesome. The co-op makes this platformer fun, the fact you have to work as a team to move objects out of the way or open a door or whatever has been created for you to beat.

I see the fun in the multiplayer aspect, look it up and you may find it more than just a simple platformer.

i understand what the OP is saying when it comes to gameplay...i myself wasnt even considering LBP until i started thinking about it like hey what if I" "...u know...i'm psyched about this now...you see it's all about how you approach the game...the way you play is up to you so I hope my opinion helps OP...just think of Races, Arcade style, adventure, and everything else you would expect of a platformer

But hey it's not another FPS so thats good.
Ya right, look at how people mod games already! They mod maps to make them awsome and entertaining and, Now think of that, but your SUPPOSE to be editing, For people with creativity it seems amazing, and will be hands down. But for some people without that sort of creativity put it down because they wish they weren't so boring and play the same FPS everyday. but they best thing is LBP reaches out to those uncreative people, you don't have to make the levels. Just go to the number 1 voted level and play it. Classic mario Platformer souped up by 100000X. people like you just don't realize it's potential.

Says the 13 year old. Seriously dude, I know that's probably not the case but you really sound like one. You keep on acting as if LBP isn't tough enough for 30 year old gamers, while gaming isn't about shooting off heads at all.

And "The guy who said it's like crash bandicoot" was you.

Only a select number of authorized users will be able to ask money for their levels, the rest of the levels are completely free.

The gameplay looks basic? That all depends on how you as a player make your levels. The game is entirely based on what the player wants, you as a player create the gameplay, the developers just give you the tools you need for it.

LBP is a game with unending varieties of gameplay, no repetivity, a story mode (Yes it does have a story mode which does feature 50 levels), and putting all of this together with 4 player co-op, you got yourself an incredibly addicting game. Even developers are impressed by the power behind this game.

Oh god you still don't get it. There may be 1 in a million users that is authorized to ask money for the games, this person will work closely to Media Molecule to provide full content updates rather then simple levels on the network.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

There's 50 levels to start out with, which I don't know about you others, but i'll be playing them all over and over, to get better scores. I'm sure there'll be a very hard trophy that requires a gold rating on every level, so that'll take A LONG time. Plus it'd be impossible to play every level created by others, I think there's a limit of how many user-created levels you can d/l though... 200 or something.

The gameplay is simple sure...but thats the point. It's the level design that makes it complex or not.

You either love it or hate it, therefore you either buy it or you don't.

I'm 20, and I'm digging LBP. So don't generalise dude...you should know by now, if anyone says ANYTHING bad about ANY PS3 game, they get bashed down, even if their reason for not liking a game is a valid reason.

And the thing about variety and LBP is, it's endless...you create the variety.

Your right oh wait:

Halo: All you do is move and shoot. (Success and apparently Fun)
Gears of War: Cover Shoot, rinse and repeat. (Success and Fun)
Resistance: All you do is move and shoot. (Success and Fun)
Killzone 2: All you do is move and shoot. (TBA)
Uncharted: Cover shoot, rinse and repeat. ("Success" and Fun)
Call of Duty 4: All you do it move and shoot. (Success and still tops charts.)

Also:

1. There will be NO microtransactions in this game, the content you can put onto your sackboy can be usercreated then sticked/glued/stapled to the sackboy this stuff can be made by other people and won from them when you complete a level. = awesome.

2. The reason to complete levels is to gather other peoples creations and put your own spin on it, Garys mod was a huge success this is that but 3D and refined.

3. If you don't like platformers then just piss off. Why are you complaining and try to get us to make you like it if you hate the genre anyway. I personally loved games like Crash Bandicoot (The classics) and Rayman so il love this for sure.

And, how is this disappointing again???

60! That's amazing!

this game loks gay im not spending 59.99 just to create maps to upload them online

So if there are anything else i am missing thats great about lttle big planet. let me know pls

thanks

Edite: just learned they have to approve the levels for it to become purchasable.. which means the good levels are gonna cost money to get.. great...
So you don't like platformers, you haven't done any research, you don't have any imagination... and you want us to convince you? Fuck off mate, no one cares.

Kind disappointed about little big planet GameTrailers.com Forums

Sure the game won't be for everyone but the op said it all in his original post. Saying he is looking forward to another fps. Don't get me wrong I love fps games but there's far too many these days and that's why I'm excited about LBP.
When I first watched demos I too was concerned that the levels would be too basic but recent footage has certainly proved me wrong. I'm certain there will be masses of decent content once people get there creative head on. Combine that with 4 player online and online rankings and leaderboards and we have potentially one of, if not the most fun games of this gen.

Does that answer some of your concerns?

overcomplicating things doesn't make a game better... why do people want to break their fingers whilst playing?
