help

I picked up my ps3 today and it is fab with one problem

I have internet access through wireless for the ps3 and my pc and , after putting in my wap code into my new toy I was ready to go

However I have a recurring problem - when i try to download the software update it gets to around 9% then stops and an error message pops up with the code 80710723 telling me " an error ocurred during the download ..."

This also causes me to lose my connection to my wireless broadband account for both the ps3 and my computer

After a few mins ( helped with me turning on and off the wireless router ) the wireless account is picked up again by both pc and ps3

Trouble is its not on anywhere long enough - literally a minute or two if I start downloading the update and then it happens again
By comparison looking at the web through ps3 causes no such crashes

you'll have to wire the connections, I did with a crap small tv and updated then later on moved the modem to next to the ps3

Mine is doing exactly the same. I am going to disable encryption and see how it gets on.

I did mine using wired ethernet and had no problems.

Mine did the same initially, but the wireless at our house is weak at the best of times, we have very thick walls and the wireless signal doesn't seem to like them! It took about two hours to get the PS3 updated when I first switched it on.

In the end we bought a Devolo Home Plug, took less than a minute to set it all up, now the connection is fabulous, have downloaded loads of demos and trailers and have played RFOM on line with no problem at all

Moved PS3 to the router and used wired connection which worked fine. Have latest software and GTHD demo etc but still will not hold wireless signal when moved to where i want it.

Strength is not a issue, PC notes it as excellent and when discovering PS notes it at over 70%.

When it drops connection the PC also loses it and router needs to be restarted.

Im using a netgear fwg114 with latest drivers installed.

Encyption turned off has not solved the issue.

thanks paul j - at least i know i am not alone and i am in exactly the same boat - strong pc signal and then i have to restart everything when it fails

Just e mailed sony metwork help - maybe they can solve - anyone have an answer to this terribly frustrating issue ??

bigal, what router are you using? I 3E38 f its netgear maybe the problem lies there.

its from 3com but not sure why one or another should be causing probs - it all worked perfect with pc and laptop .

once you did this the once with a network cable did the problem solve itself and does the wireless now work trouble free ?

if anyone else has this problem i called the sony helpdesk and had a usb cable in the ps3 but no controller attached

i attached my controller and kept it attached during the download and all worked fine

It did say, when doing the update, to keep the controller in -I didn't think it would effect completing the update though. Good to know for the future!

Im having exactly the same problem as you did bigalw, so much so it could actually have been me typing your original post lol. I keep gettin the same eror message and having my router disconnect.

Its really annoying me now. It gets so far and then it just produces the same error message. Im using the BT Home Hub which works fine with my Xbox 360. I tried leaving the controllor in, didnt work, ive tried changing the settings on my router, in the game application sharing section with no luck. I cant find any options for putting the PS3's ip address outside of the DMZ. This is really a bumb to see if neone else can help, someone who has a Home Hub especially. cheers

try what i did jnv - it seemed to work although i dont think i am totally out of the woods yet - i tried to download the casino royale trailer last night and it failed and crashed the router again

am now online gaming for the first time ( wow , what a laugh ) and am hoping that things will settle down in the long term

i read somewhere else in these posts that ps3 can take a while to settle down with wireless so maybe i am through the worst of it

have also upgraded my internet connection from 1 to 7 speed so am hopeful that will further help

try the ps3 helpline too on 08702 422 299 - they were great - really helpful

Yeh i will have to give them a call, its so weird though, i dont understand what is causing it. I need to call them anyway because i cant get the PS3 to output dolby digital, its a shame im having these problems as my 360 has been faultless (touch wood).
