Hello,

Is there anything inside a home cinema amp which would upset the PS3's hardware if it was placed directly on top of it? By that I mean does an amp have any magnets etc that could affect the PS3 hard drive?

Any advice would be helpful as i'm planning to have a shuffle round in my living room.

I'd say heat will definitely be an issue. How much will depend on where your amp expels it's hot air.

The top of the amp is smooth with the air vents on the side. i guess i'll just have to run it for a while to see how hot it gets.

Generally speaking it's not advisable to stack anything on top of an amp. For the most part I would follow that advice. I do have a DVD player on top of mine but it is very rarely used and even when it is it's not for a long period of time.

a george foreman grill cooked by an amp but seriously,i wouldnt even think of putting ANYTHING ontop or near the side of an amp saying that i reckon my 360 could give the amp a run for its money,if it lasts long enough that is lol.

I Have my ps3 placed on top of an amp - havnt had any problems so far (5 months), but both do pump alot of heat out which cant be good in the long run, if it fries the ps3 then ill know not to do it next time lol.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. With 3 pieces of kit, PS3, Amp and Sky+, and only two shelves, it will have to be a new stand/cabinet or place the PS3 on its side next to everything else.

does your amp have vents on the top? thats the real key if it does then the airflow is designed to flow out there so dont put anything over those vents you will shorten its life (and possible the PS3's, back of PS3 chucks out some heat when on for a while)

Just make sure the amp is turned on before the PS3, the big "BONG" noise when you turn the amp on is the relay switching turning on the massive transformer, this will give off a spike of electrical noise. As mentioned heat will be the main issue.

Yep, thanks for all your comments. Although my amp has no vents on the top (they are at the side) I'm going to err on the side of caution and buy a nice three shelved unit, one for each box.
