If Halo 3 is given perfect scores i'm beginning to think something is definitely wrong with game scoring in reviews.

Take Bioshock. Different genre but still a 5/5 game per reviews. Does anyone honestly think Halo 3 is as good at what it does as Bioshock is at what it does?

these are like not trusted sources, These reviews are just kinda a bonus they dont really count. its pretty obvious there going to give Halo 3 the most hyped 360 game a 5/5 as it is a good series.

IGN, Gamespot are really what counts when it comes to trusted reviews. Maybe 1up aswell

This review is hardly a 'review' anyway. Anyone can say "the awesome" and give a game top marks. I'll wait for more credible sources for reviews.

I still don't know how a game can get a 100% perfect score... I mean... come on. Halo 1 and 2 were amazing games.... truly... but perfect? Halo 3 will be just like those two, probably.. A LOT like those two... but hey.. thats Halo.. you know what to expect.

I dunno, is it? The fact is.. Halo to me doesn't seem as cool as Marathon did back in the day.... especially Marathon Infinity... man I remember the day that came out... I had to buy it... and I did... and what a great game.

I don't care much about Halo, a lot of Xbox fans tout it to be the ultimate FPS on line, but comparing that to Resistance to me personally is kinda funny cause ..... well... its my opinion anyway.

Im a huge halo nut but the grunts really turn me off. They have always been a lame character to me. Its like shooting toddlers.

Halo has a HUGE multiplayer game as well, so really your getting twice as much as Bioshock.... why wouldnt it recieve simialar scores??

They did the same thing with Bioshock. These reviewers have to be some lazy ******** to slap games with a perfect score. No game is perfect, and this 'Game Master' website needs to stop reviewing games.

Most foolish and vague characteristic I think I've seen in a review yet. Don't care for scores, but goodness...at least make sense.

Why should they stop reviewing games... They have just as much right to review a game as anybody that has played it. Including you and me.

People need to get this in their head. A "perfect" score does not mean a perfect game. Everyone knows there is no such thing. A perfect score just means that the game has earned the reviewers highest possible recommendation--in their opinion and their experience. Other opinions may vary.

Should there be no 5 star restaurants or 5 star hotels just because perfection doesn't exist? If the highest score is never achievable, then it should be removed off the scale because it isn't useful for the review.

1UP??? hell no they can't put aside their fondness of a certain console before reviewing games. As for Halo 3 we all know this game will get bloated scores is no surprise really.

Futhermore. Most just have this biased against a game. Just because they can't get over their own biased opinion they think that others should fall right in line.

For me. I dont like Final Fantasy and i've made it known that i don't particularly like Halo either. But, just because i don't like them doesn't mean i would crap all over a positive review for them. People need to get over themselves when it comes to other's personal reviews.

Yeah...(gameplay wise that's true, but the number of 12 years olds really ruins my experience). But that's still only half the game, and alone is not worth the perfect score. That's what I'm wondering though: just how good or bad the single player is, and how much weight are the reviewers putting on that as opposed to the multiplayer everybody is really waiting for?
For a perfect score, the story had better top Halo 1.

And given how much Halo-hype we have been, and are going to be subjected too during launch, I'm thinking the single player should be better than Bioshock just to make up for it, else I'm gonna be pissed...

I simply don't agree with that, Halo 2's online experience as a shooter was crappy for many reasons. Now, it's online features were amazing but we're talking about gameplay right?

Exactly a perfect score means for what the GAME is trying to accomplish it is perfect...

Its not based on other games around it. Each game is its own score.

Halo 1 was online. It was called Xboxconnect, and it rocked. System link over the net. It didn't have all the bells and whistles of Halo 2, but it was a solid online experience.

In my opinion, I expect Halo 3 to deserve high review scores. As long as Bungie can incorporate all of these features decently, they will have an exceptional game on their hands. Look at what they are putting into it:

-Good story
-Online co-op in Campaign for up to 4
-Interactive replay of single and multiplayer Campaign missions
-Online Multiplayer deathmatch/objective games
-Interactive replay of deathmatch/objective games
-Basic map editor
-Dynamic Deathmatches (Forge) with replays
-Immense customization of gametypes and even power-ups
-Party system that works across all online modes

How many other console games have all this? I wasn't honestly hyped about Halo 3 until I heard about all the online modes. I thought we would get regular multiplayer matches and some sort of 2-player campaign at best. The fact that you can have a few friends in your party and just hop in and out of campaign, deathmatches, replays, and forge together has got me hooked.

It's true, perfect score's mean the good outweigh the bad so much, that you just don't care.

I have no problems with games getting perfect scores, it doesn't happen all that often when you think about how many thousands of games get released.

Honestly, IMHO reviews for halo 3 don't matter, everyone and their grandma is going to buy it......

LAN over net is not online. And if you think a one-second-lag is a solid online experience then you probably didn't play an online game before it.

Don't bother. This argument will forever exist for fanboys to argue about. You make a great example with hotels and it's the same way with movies. There is no perfect movie yet nobody *****es when a movie is given 5 out of 5 stars. Why? Because people realize that 5/5 means it's a great movie, nothing more than that. It sure doesn't mean it's perfect.

Gaming is an incredibly young medium as compared to film, it's going to take quite a while for people to realize something doesn't have to be perfect in order to be given the highest rating from a reviewer.

Personally, all I need to know is if a game is worth a purchase, rental or a don't bother. That's it. Same way with movies. Buy a ticket, rent it or don't bother. I don't get caught up in numbers. Number are a tool to help you make a decision, not the be all end all.

Well if the game is bloated with quality, why not give it a bloated score? It makes since to me.

I don't agree that a perfect score is warranted for almost any game ever..... It doesn't seem right. For all the criteria that a game can be judged it ends up being scored perfectly? Thats my only gripe.

Sorry if i sound negative, but I'm getting sick of the review bias as of late. It seems to me every little niggling detail is pulled out of PS3 games and scores are deducted for each and every one. But, when it's a 360 game, suddenly everything is forgiven and it's the best game ev4r. Even if the graphics aren't amazing, no score is taken away. If any one graphical thing is wrong in a PS3 game, like the trees not holding up in full zoom across the level, then points are deducted.

Like i said, i don't mean to be too negative (or sound too fanboyish), but the review bias is frustrating.

I dislike most reviews as well, SOME (not all) IGN reviews I like because (some) focus more on the non-objective things in the game... so you can judge for yourself what you might think of it.

For the most part a review is tricky business but still, a perfect score on a review makes no sense to me, that means for all the criteria possibly its 100% perfect? I mean.. come on. No way.

I don't think its PS3 games vs. 360 games in terms of a good review, I think that its HALO and the short list of incredibly AAA games the 360 has, there are LOTS of good games on the system as Im sure someone will say, but AAA titles are less on the 260 as opposed to the PS3 in time... mostly because of the PS2 legacy and the PS1 legacy, so xbox owners and reviewers know deep down somewhere that halo, gears and bioschock are the big big titles, like previous generations of DMC, FF, MGS, Socom, Silent Hill, etc. etc. etc..... and you could relate back further to PS1 days as well..

the point is... a lot of reviewers will feel pressured somehow when halo 3 comes out to say anything bad about it, even though there will be complaints by fans ABOUT SOMETHING... even if its a small detail. I'm not saying it deserves a bad score, I haven't played it since the BETA at a friends for a bunch of hours a few days in a row..... but man...... the review of a perfect score makes no sense.

For anyone still bewildered when they see a perfect score for a game, please follow these steps:

1. Mentally add 1 to the scoring scale. (So, if you see a 10/10, think of it as 10/11. 5/5, think of it as 5/6.)
2. Be happy.

This way, the review will now make at least some sense to you since 11/10s and 6/5s are not ever achievable on games made by human beings. You can confirm that no game in existence are getting those scores. The world makes some sense again.

Receiving a 100 in a review is like receiving a 100 on a test.

What in the bloody hell did you guys expect? It's HALO. People are too busy sucking Bungie's tiny rope to realize that HALO isn't the "BEST GAME IN THE WORLD W00T!". It's a good fun game, but anything farther than that, maybe you should take the big Windows powered c.o.c.k. out of your mouth.

I like what oxm did, peope were *****ing about the 10 that they gave fight night round 3 so they raised they max score to 11 so people know that even a game gets a 10 its not perfect, and this ps3 bias stuff does not ****ing exist 90 percent of the time you ps3 fans say it does, I laugh everytime I hear someone ***** about oblivion getting a lesser score on ps3, and of course nobody listens when it is explained to them why.

It should receieve a lower score, it came out almost a year late (on top of being a 2 year old game from PC). Even if a game comes out a month late, it should receieve a hit in score (especially if something good is out by then).

Ive tried to explain to people that when the experience is old it doesnt matter if the actual game is better or not, if something comes out later it imediately gets a hit in its score, people were *****ing about NGS getting a lower score on the ps3 than the xbox version, all I head was how biased ign is and how biased this and that is, its laughable.

I dont see why people are saying they'll wait for more credicle reviews. Halo 3 is HALO, a franchise with proven gameplay, a franchise that scores an average of 95% from 'more credible' reviewers.
Halo 3 will get superb scores...no reason to wait or not. It's gameplay is proven, as are its online capabilities, and graphics are great as well.

No, it isn't. Its not the same at all. Getting a 100 on a test is a series of questions you have answered correctly. Its not something you judge objectively is it? Its not the same. A game could never be 100% perfect.

Incorrect. It is like it a receiving a 100 on a test. A game getting a 10/10 means it did everything correctly in the areas that the game is designed around. BioShock did everything rgith in AIs, level design, weapons variety, plasmid variety, physics engine, etc. That is why it got 10/10s.

Glad to know that Halo, from what reviewers are saying, won't be a flop. Although Halo 2 was very controversial game (for reasons that I do not know), I thought it was a great game. If I ever do get an Xbox360 - and there is a very good chance I will - Halo 3 will be the first game I get for the system if not Bioshock.

well these arent perfect scores, they are technically the higest scores the games can get but you will never ever hear a reviewer say a game is perfect, i think that all websites and magazines should adopt ign's scoring system, with a 5 point system things just get confusing.

Right, but you also have to realize that millions of people will read that review and that will be their deciding factor with a game purchase. So if IGN gave Two Worlds a 10/10 because they thought it was perfect, yet the game actually sucked, it would not be fair for those that bought the game based on their judgements. I think game reviewers have a responsability to be extremely objective and fair when reviewing games.

Well those people are MORONS! It's clearly their opinion, and no reviewer would give a game a 10 if its THAT far from an amazing experience no one is that stupid. In my eyes if a game gets a 10 from 1up( the only guys I really look to for opinions) that means to me that the game is at least an 8.5.

Well, could you explain to me what perfection is in their eyes? I mean, I could give Two Worlds a 10/10 based on my idea of perfection, and I can guarantee you no one would agree with me on that score.

So every game should get 4.9s instead of 5s. A reviewer gives a score of 10/10 for being close to perfection since they know nothing is truly perfect they give a game a 10/10 for being a great experience, better than the most if not all other games out, and how close the game is to perfection.

I don't like Oblivion at all but I respect it for what it does which is create a HUGE massive world with tons of replay value.

Truly, you missed the point, the point was that no matter how good a game truly is, it cannot be 100% perfect. Hence why a perfect review is useless to me.... You obviously didn't read what I all wrote because I already said I played the heck outta Halo 1 and 2, and I enjoyed the Halo 3 BETA, truthfully I enjoy other games far more, but Halo is a AAA series, even in my eyes - because I'm not trying to be stupid here. But even the games I adore as a gamer, are not perfect, none of them are. To rate them perfectly is ridiculous to me. It has nothing to do with what I think, its a way of looking at a review.

Do you really think a game like this is not going to be good? Do you think this game deserves less than "A", just because YOU don't happen to like it? There are games that I don't like, but I still consider them well made games.

Some games are just destined to be good, not matter what.. Halo, Zelda, Metal Gear, just to name a few.

I like playing Halo co-op and split-screen more than I do online. It's a great party game when you have a bunch of dudes over.

you played halo 2 before halo CE? im suprised you werent turned off on the series altogether lol, i just felt that bungie had horrible level design in halo 2 it was linear as hell one of the awesome things about the original halo was how big and epic the battles were.

The flood was a very nice addition. I have to admit - they scared the hell out of me when I was playing Halo 2 (I played the second Halo before the first, ouch). There is nothing else like running through a herd of Flood with a life time supply of Shotgun shells.... awesome.
