The 50.00 Game They wish
Today I had a few hours to kill before work so I decided to go and have a look at some game bargins. I really wanted to get some new cheap games. Mainly Gun and John Madden 07. ?45.00 for both currently.
I almost could not belive what I saw, various stores have games at ?50.00 not just lattest games but some games that have been around for quite a while. What are they thinking ? Who would buy them, then it clicked we all do! Don't we?
So hands up who has paid over the odds for a game when they clearly did know that they could get it else where?
With the starting price of ?39.99 for ps3 games as a new 360 user I feel a bit cheated. ?40.00 would be the max I would ever pay for a game. Its not rip of Britain as each shop will sell each game for a different price its more rip of games and the fact that they don't fix the price across the platforms.
So it looks like online orders and Asda or Tesco is the way forward for me and will be checking the forum for game deals also.

I've been lucky and always mangaged to pick up my titles cheaply - I went into my local GAME and laughed at the prices before walking out, scary.
GUN is £9.95 delivered from HERE btw.

I've paid over the odds for a game or two, but mostly it's been because I had vouchers for that shop, so the cash price was minimal (or zero).
My local Virgin shop is selling off games at £50 a pop, but most of them are BOGOFF. Not that the games they have are particularly good value even taking that into account.
Online is the way forward, and don't forget Play - they're knocking out EDF for £17.99!

Agreeed. However, some stores (cough virgin anyway) sell them at their RRP (which is £49.99). A rip off I know though. Best thing to do is stick to online retailers, or if you need to buy something on the highstreet, the supermarkets, gamestation and Cex are usually good.
Also, its only first party (so sony published) PS3 titles that are £39.99. Third party titles are can still be around £45-50.

It is quite disgusting how much they charge in shops like Game and I think the high street rip-off prices seem to be just there to trap people without the internet and a credit card! That said I think they are slowly begining to improve. I used to only buy my games online and never paid more than ?40 though I have run into disagreements with both Amazon (the great 360 pre-order fiasco) and Play (can't seem to get their system to recognise my card holder address) so I've been using high street stores.
I have recently used the odd high street store and been relatively happy with the service. I got Crackdown on release day for ?37.95 from HMV (plus ?15 off from a games reward card I got ages ago when buying a psp) and picked up GRAW 2 for ?39.99 from Game who gave me ?12 for GRAW1 and ?22 for Viva Pinata both of which I thought were fairly reasonable returns.

Hav'nt used them personally but have seen them mentioned around the forums a few times. I pointed the same game out to 'mangaboy' on here when he posted a wanted thread - Might be worth pm'ing hin to see how his transaction went.
I'm sure i've seen positive comments about them on the dvdforums but they are doing a server move at the mo so no access.

The PCWORLD 2 titles for ?60 was a good deal for a high street retailer, especially as it was on the same time as Lost Planet,Crackdown and GRAW2 were released. Even if you did'nt want the other title you could easily sell it for ?30 (or more) and recoupe your outlay (or more) and get a good price on the game you wanted.

i only usually buy games from asda and tesco, never hmv, virgin, game or gamestation..only when they have something at a good price would i buy it.
i got virtua tennis for £29.99 on friday from gamestation, and also spotted lego star wars, and arcade unplugged for £49.99..something i pointed out was way off to the assistant in virgin, and was told, thats the rrp..lies..all lies.
high street stores, are blatantly ripping people off, price fixing goes on,although they deny it.
if people dont use them, they will have no other alternative but to drop prices.
just look at some of the prices for the dvd of casino royale,in asda and tesco its £7.
almost triple that in some of the big name stores..
but you have to laugh, way back when,i got my spectrum,it was £3.99 for games, then £5.99..swore i wouldnt pay more, then £7.99,then up to £9.99 for some of the ultimate games, like underwurlde..then the prices took a huge hike with the amiga etc.
they have never gone down, only up,and now with prices as high as they are,its a worrying trend that can only get worse.
so much for ingame advertising lowering prices...never,it only lines the devs/shopkeepers pockets.

I paid £45 for PGR3 at game at launch simply because i wanted something to play on that day rather than shop around and waste time.

Places like Virgin/HMV make me selling games at ?40-?50. Who in their right mind (other than the very loaded few) would actually consider buying games from them?
