You can atleast get a vague idea of some of the environments from these grabs though.

Can't wait to see this game. This is probably the tipping point game for me getting a 360, although of course there has been plenty of reasons before this game.

The last pic is eugh. I mean most of the caps arent the best, but it's like the textures arent loaded at all in that last pic. Bit like what would happen in Gears with the armour textures not loading.

The rest are nice though, there's a great variety. Though I saw one biggish spoiler I wish I hadnt.

Then that's my que to stop looking at the pics. The 20th can't get here soon enough.

horrible captures. The gameplay videos look nothing like those . If they were that bad you'd Game Informer would have brought it up in there review. Same with some of the 1UP guys who have played it

Hmm, those just look awful. Its like there are no textures. Either its a glitch (likely), or this game has taken a huge nosedive between cutscene quality and gameplay quality.

Not to ugh, upset anyone, but these look nothing like the pics that people were saying the game play was going to look like. These screens are about the equivalent of Gears of War if not worse.

What I dont understand with what everyone is saying is how do you get better screen grabs? I mean do you get a better camera? A better version of the game review code? Or what is it? I dont understand how you get better grabs :\ This is for anything, not just ME I am confused.

It makes no sense to me, but for some reason IGN has the worst screen grabs I've ever seen. Jaggies where there shouldn't be, compression, that sort of thing.

I'm sure that's the case with these screens as well, because some of them just don't match up with what we've seen in the past. Too grainy and compressed or something about them. Or maybe this is an old build?

But I'll wait and see some from Gamersyde.com or whatever that is. They seem to capture the best like some have said.

After watching this video (http://bioware.vo.llnwd.net/o1/masse...t_1280x720.wmv), I will admit, these screens suck, but it still doesnt look much better than gears. However, thats alright because Gears is still amazing graphically, I guess I was just expecting Gears to be surpassed the following year.

Considering the game is MASSIVE! Lower end graphics wouldn't bother. But the fact that the graphics are insane on some parts make is so much sweeter.

Again, I'll have to wait until I see the final review and screens from Gamersyde.com. The screens they are showing just don't seem to match up with what we've been seeing at all. From what I've seen in videos, it looks a lot better than these latest screens.

Don't worry guys. It'll look better than this for sure. It'll be one of the top games of 2007 for sure, and ranks as the top RPG right now in my books.

I read that the UE engine sometimes takes a bit to upload textures. So that maybe the reason why the pic you posted looks like that.

Yeah, I was reading that on Gaf as well. Either that or the official forums for ME.

everyone keeps hoping gears will be surpassed but im not sure it can be, at least in terms of textures, the UE is the king of textures, it doesnt get much better than gears as far as texture detail goes, we should be looking at things other than just textures, I much prefer the character models in mass effect.

im with you, the ONE concern i have over this game is the lack of life in the characters. sure, their faces animate well, but they have absolutely no emotion. just like dead vessels or something. thats my one disappointment. performance capturing would have done amazing things with this game.

yeah it does textures good as these shots show. but animation, etc brings the games to life in my opinion. the unreal engine only seems to focus on graphics sadly, or at least the developers using the engine do.

still, excited to play this game............i think i might have like the old battle system better, but im happy the way it turned out i think. not sure im ever going to have time to finish this one though

in terms of raw detail gears is still king IMO, but I can list a handful of games that I think look better for other reasons, mass effect is a beautiful game, these screens are lackluster however.

lol bioshock was beautiful because of the art style but in terms of texture detail, gears>bioshock, noone is going to get more detail out of the unreal engine than epic.

I will wait for the game to be on my tv before I judge it.

no the textures were decent, but I can list tons of games on the ps2 that were garbage when you compared them to the best looking xbox games but their art style made them beautiful.

exactly, its textures were not as good, but environments and art direction made it much better in my opinion. but thats all art direction comes down to, an opinion.

not really. GeOW and Unreal 3 have great textures, but i think they dont look nearly as good as say Uncharted, or HS, or RAC for that matter. why? because of art style. i just dont like the Unreal Engine "look" in those games. Which is why i think Mass Effect looks better than GeOW/Unreal.........art direction dude.

I don't know about RAC or Uncharted but IMO no way HS's textures are better than GeOW no way .

I agree, this is the reason why god of war 2 and shadow of the collosus were so beautiful, it wasnt technical prowess so much as a great art direction.

i said dont look as good.............lol. once again, its art style. i like the look better. i think unreal is bumped a little too much for my tastes. ill take the less bumped and more beautiful scenery in HS any day of the week.............its only my opinion so please dont flame me for it

Bioshock had beautiful textures at times, other time, average 360 textures. But at some moments, such as the wall to your left once you get out of the water, are F-ING amazing, like next-next-gen.

bioshock was great on a technical level as well as art direction, but on a technical level noone is going to beat epic with their own engine, just not going to happen.

i agree, it had its moments for sure. im sure the pc version had better textures, but if you ask me that definitely wasnt the games selling point

im still disappointed in the ending though.........but im glad i played through it.

yeah the ending wasnt so great, but up until then the game just kept getting better and better as you progressed, I loved it.

Lol what I was trying to say was that IMO at least, the textures of GeOW> than textures of HS, sorry but English isn't my first language and sometimes I make mistakes. Although HS is an awesome looking game, those cut scenes where just .
