Why do you think X07 was cancelled
http://squadxp.com/modules.php?name=...rder=0&thold=0
I know this was posted before but that thread got derailed and consequentially blew up from all the trolling happing in it. So this will be the V.2 of that thread. Now with less trolling!
So why do you guys think it was canceled and what affect it will have on gaming. I know alot of member (i.e Aquanox) had said that Microsoft will show the 08 games that were lacking in e3 at X07. What now since its gone?

I hate how you can be sized up and condemned for the posts you make. Who cares, its all news, take what you will from it and move on. You've outlined the problem, that most fanboys will only post bad news about the other console, well, then you just have to get over it, or you don't get bad news at all.
We could try and have more impartial people posting news on this forum, but the way LoudNinja seems to be pissed all over whenever he posts negative 360 news here would make me shy away from doing it.

Just because games weren't shown, or that X07 isn't going ahead, people are assuming that somehow there aren't any games coming! The list of games due in 2008 is already rather meaty:
- Alan Wake
- Fable 2
- Cry On
- Ninja Gaiden 2
- Gears of War 2
- Square Enix Project Sylph
- Left 4 Dead
- Halo Wars
- All Points Bulletin
- Blue Dragon 2
- Mistwalker MMORPG
- Marvel Universe Online
- Banjo Kazooie 3
- Peter Jacksons' Halo Project
- Too Human
- Infinite Undiscovery
People are far too quick to write the competition off, it was done to Sony last year and it has been doe to Microsoft this year.
And do you have a source for these rumours? It would be highly doubtful for Microsoft to leave the console business. Firstly, too much money has been ploughed into the market to simply walk away, especially when Microsoft operates on long-term strategies (10-20 years). Secondly the console is now profitable, and the very high game attachment rate means that the division is becoming more sound. Lastly and the most important aspect: it is the market leader.
What I find interesting is that people concentrate on the loss of the Xbox + Xbox360, yet nothing is said about Sony and the PS3 which is in a financial position far worse off than Microsoft.

Gears of War 2 might be shown in 2008, but it won't be released by 2009 at the earliest.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
It's already been annonced by MS that they have a special show set to unveil Too Human. i am sure that you will see other things at that show too.
How many different threads are we going to have on this topic?
http://n4g.com/industrynews/News-52999.aspx THIS was also just announced.
Quote:
Following the news that this year's X0 event has been cancelled, a Microsoft spokesperson has told GamesIndustry.biz that the UK will get its own 360 event instead.
"X07 is not going ahead," the spokesperson confirmed.
"We're looking at doing something here in the UK. It will be from a UK point of view, not from a European point of view."
According to the spokesperson, the timing for the new UK event is "still to be confirmed". However, he did state that it is set to take place "before Christmas".

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
Its no big deal, with the Internet and XBL everything you would want to know and see about upcoming games is there at your finger tips, plus i can see these event at some stage getting phased out completely due to the Internet and the ability to deliver all this stuff like demos and trailers right onto your console, add to the mix that the general gaming public is not interested in these type of events,i think MS can take a breather.

|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
I think it's because of money, that show most have costed a lot, and all the other shows coming before 08 would be enough to show them some new games.
Still funny that so many people said we should wait for X07 and now that wont even be there
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
I don't think it's the lack of games per'say, it's probably due to a the lack of new announcements
which is a bit worrying, I guess

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
has no one thought about the second part of E3, what some people are calling E4, it happens in october, there is also leipzig convention and tgs.
so there is 3 major shows. I think its got to do with peter moore leaving more than anything. And they have thought sod it, we will just show stuff at these events.
so yeah i heard theres a second part to E3 that goes on in october or something
http://www.eforallexpo.com/
thats the website. They may show some stuff there.
opeace!
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
Why did they cancel? Probably because of many things...Moore leaving, hardware woes, financial matters etc. With everything going on my questions don't really revolve around the why so much but more around the where do we go from here and how much of impact is it going to have areas.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
There is absolutely no way that they are canceling it do to a lack of games. As said by others, that would mean Microsoft has absolutely nothing of value to offer in 2008, and we all know how untrue that is with games like Halo Wars, the exclusive SE game, PJ's Halo game, Project Offset, and probably a lot more that I just haven't been paying attention to lately.
Some people have said that X07 has been canceled due to money and shakeups... I have to agree. With Peter Moore leaving the company, the Xbox 360 has lost its "face" and it will take a while for this new guy to learn the ropes and all. That, along with the new extended warranty means that Microsoft has a lot of other things to worry about right now, and setting up its own special conference just doesn't rank up there very high.
Finally, and this one may be a stretch, but in the end will be true. Microsoft may be trying to "hide" some of its future games to throw off the competition. By not being able to see what Microsoft is doing, Sony and Nintendo have to do their own thing. Then Microsoft can sit back and unleash the surprises. Even if that isn't their plan, it will have the same effect since they wont be releasing as much news as they used to around this time, and we already know that E3 didn't announce anything for next year, so for the most part everyone is in the dark.
Just my thoughts, so think of them what you will, but I think it makes sense... lol

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
As stated by others i think they are focusing on the hardware problems and i can't believe some people actually think they have nothing for 08 talk about the level of intellect on this forum.

- The worst of their problems is behind them, if sales continue to go smooth and no new defects are found in the Xbox 360. Then it is safe to say that they will be profiting per quarter in the near future.
- Maybe they are trying to cut back on unnecessary costs? A press conference would be every bit as good as x07, since games were already playable just a week ago.

For now we can only speculate on reasons until they expand on this announcement. No matter what you or I think about the news you know the media is going to have a field day with this right?
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
1-I think they don't have enough games to show us.
2-They want to concentrate on fixing dead xboxs out their instead of spending extra money on the show.
3-I am sure they gonna show us some thing in TGS 07.

? This has been traditionally the show were they announce their last minute aces for the holiday sales season and launch an all out multi-billion dollar ad campaign. Without the hype the mainstream fanbase will buy Halo 3 in record numbers but that will not drive console sales.
There are other reasons why I don’t feel this is good news for MS but I will leave those for later. MS has a highly competitive game lineup for the rest of 2007, however not much was shown at E3 in regards to an equally exciting 2008 lineup. MS could be regrouping under a news management business plan or their financial woes have caught up to them?

The new guy sucks at keynotes?
The only 3 reasons I can come up with:
1. They want to do like they did in 04, much smaller events in separate countries.
2. They think TGS and Leipzig will be enough.
3. Oh man am I gonna get flamed for this, 360 is on its way out via Dreamcast.
#2 is probably the most likely of my 3.

Anyways, i personally think they cancelled this year mainly because of what this years 4th quarter is gonna do for their company. I mean look, all these games are releasing, ps3 barely has an exclusive out at the time, gta and halo , the top sellers on there respective consoles last gen, are now BOTH on 360...Why would they want people to delay their 360 purchases any further? By not showing any of the 08 games, people remain tempted to buy 360 this year and sales SKY ROCKET!

The system fix is already in place. I bought my Elite a month ago with a Manufactured date of March 28th, and it has the added heat sink and runs much cooler than my premium did. The systems on the shelves have the fix already.
In terms of a four year lifespan, the 360 is nothing like the OG Xbox, and its span will be much longer than 4 years. So i guess you should respond with a RROD joke.

True R&D will cost more but not nearly as much as ignoring the problem would. It needs to be done. The sooner the better.

word will get out without advertising since many people have their eyes on this. Also unless the appearance of the 360 is altered the average consumer will knot know the difference. The exteded warranty for the RROD will give consumers confidence that in the event of the RROD they will be covered.

|
Well MS's huge bankroll and their 3 year extended warranty for the RROD will give consumers confidence that they will not get screwed over. (A weaker company with these issues would collapse and fold) Sure the inconvienience of sending a faulty system in for repair is still there but for all we know MS will be shipping the redesigned harware out as replacements, thus gradually replacing all the flawed hardware with good hardware.
Its not the best situation but it had to be done sooner or later amd the sooner the better. Yes in the short term sales may dip but again this needed to be addressed for the long term health of 360 sales.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
why in the world do people think e3 was a disaster for Microsoft, it was by no means a bad e3 for them.
nor did Sony stomp all over them.
X07 being canceled doesn't negate the fact that the Xbox has AAA games through 08 and games/surprises we don't know about.

Both you guys need to stop, seriously. Because of people like you, we can't have a decent discussion in this sub-forum. PS3 forum or not, you don't need to be a derailer / troller.
I think they canceled X07 because of Peter Moore stepping down. Maybe they want to give the new guy some time to get used to being the big cheese at Microsoft. I know they have a lot of PR people, but you always need to have the big dogs at the big shows.
I think we are going to see a lot more changes in Microsoft in the next few months. Things are getting shaken no doubt. Maybe they will eventually get out of the large hole they have dug for themselves.
Either way, I'm sure they will be announcing a lot of stuff (more now that X07 is gone) at the Tokyo Game Show and Leipzig. That way they get all three regions' games, and they can make some big announcements as well, since I think pretty much everybody agreed they didn't pull a lot of big stuff at E3.

your first mistake was believing ANYTHING Aqua had to say....he was saying things like that in an attempt to diffuse the attacks on MS for their poor E3 showing, he had no proof of it...
I think honestly this is a situation of MS being caught with their pants down....
They were sitting pretty with their console sales lead, things were looking shaky in the PS3 camp, and the Wii is generally a non-factor regardless of its crazy sales numbers.
Sony hit a homerun at E3 while MS had little to show as far as blockbuster titles (not even a gameplay demonstration of Halo 3) so in turn chooses to focus on 2007 titles...which I feel was a cover for the fact that they don't currently have anything big planned for 08....so they choose to display some pretty looking multiplatform games, release an new sku...and show a lackluster trailer for Halo 3...
Add to that mess the fact that the failure rates are finally hitting the mainstream media and MS is planning to take a least a $1billion+ hit on repairs.....and you have yourself a recipe for some serious problems in the 360 camp...

but remember x07 was supposed to be the time to shine....remember Sony and Nintendo will be at TGS as well....so chances are all 3 will have surprises up their sleeves....x07 was a chance for MS to take advantage of having a solo stage...nobody else could make huge announcements like MGS (still) exclusive, or Killzone 2, or Unreal exclusiveness...it was supposed to be all about the 360....

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
I think MS is focusing it's resources on getting the 360 hardware on track.
I foresee some changes in their endless wallet spending practices for the time being.
I think it is a sign that the entertainment and games division is regrouping and putting it's priorities in order. The hardware needs fixing before anything else at this moment in time.
In the short term this may allow their competition to gain ground but it is crucial for their long term gains.
Very wise IMHO.

Look I am not saying they are folding. I think they are trying to move people around try some other things to see if it helps become profitable therefore they are worrying about that before their next expo or whatever. If they don't become profitable though by the end of next year something WILL eventually happen and what I am saying is they are trying to avoid that as any business would, but I don't think you can disagree that if they don't make money in the future they will have no choice to fold no matter how good or bad the 360 is.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
Possibly the games they were hoping to show aren't ready for the public eye yet? They probably don't want another Assassins Creed thing happening.
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
But all the games at e3 were for 2007.
If they didnt have games for X07 then that would mean they dont have any games for 2008, which we know is not true.

I think they are shaking up their entertainment division for 1 last stand. I am not trolling, but they can't lose money forever and they could VERY easily apply all they have in the gaming biz to games for windows and just phase out the xbox. I am not saying this will happen, but they need to make money eventually or it will. I know MS is very rich, but I am sure they want to keep as much of that money as they can and 6billion in losses isn't good for any company even MS.

Thats why there have been new announcements of games from Peter Molyxneux and Sakaguchi in the last week or so that extends well past 2008?

theres enough. e3 showed the domination for this fall, they advertised there lineup.
the 08 surprises will come from other means

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
I personally think:
1. Microsoft is possibly trying to be more responsible with its funds for the game division? x07 has always been a HUGE show quite comparable to a e3 like event.
2. A smaller show which is a continuation of number one. Since Microsoft has already given people a chance to play their upcoming playable games of 07 at e3. It doesn't make much sense to have a huge event where a large focus is the playable games at kiosks. Possibly a much smaller event in the form of a conference?
3. They didn't see a need with all the upcoming events?
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
MS just dont have enough games to make their own expo, we all saw it on E3.
|
|
Why do you think X07 was cancelled
My take is that they dont have new games to show beside the ones we saw at E3.

Laoman is right. There is good news and bad news for both consoles but some 360 and PS3 fanboys simply post the bad news on the respective sides of this forum. They can and should be labeled as trolls. They seek out the bad news and throw it in the faces of others around here.
I can start to name them if you like.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
I think these big conferences are a waste of money. Instead they could just release lots of demos and gameplay videos on Live.

Unfortunately most of the stuff posted is either "a website said/ i read a rumour/a mag said..and 99% of it is negative oneupmanship in your face, hahaha your console/games is having problems and mines is not...rubbish.
And that goes for both forums.

[quote=zeonpilot;1713575]... then suddenly Peter Moore jumps ship. ...[quote]
You don't have an executive as high up as Moore leave and announce a replacement in the same day without a lot of planning. From what I've heard, MSFT has known the specific details of Moore's leaving for EA Sports for weeks.
Moore is ultimately responsible for the hardware failures of the Xbox 360, which have reached so far into the gaming public's consciousness that it may prevent the project form ever seeing a profit. It eats at their profitability from all directions, the $1.1 Bn charge to fix broken Xboxs already in the field is just the beginning. They will sell fewer consoles than they would have. They will sell fewer games than they would have. Their organization's energy will be caught in a feedback cycle reacting to problems rather than proactively improving their business. Exclusives will not be won that would have been. Conferences will not go well that would have.
Moore saw the writing on the wall, knew what must happen and found a new position.
The next year is going to be a real test of the Interactive Entertainment Business unit of Microsoft, just as the previous one has been a test for SCE. They need to end the problems that their hardware has been having. The warranty won't do it, they need to stop the three red lights from happening, they need to stop the disk scratching, all while lowering the manufactuing cost and performing what may be the herculean task of supporting the existing install base of 360's with the three red lights design flaw.
Not an impossible mission, but not an easy one either, and one that must be done while Nintendo and Sony continue executing their own business strategies.

agree with almost everything you had to say....MS has made many mistakes...probably more mistakes than Sony has this generation....unfortunately for Sony they made a $150 mistake on the price point (Even though I do feel the PS3 is technologically worth every penny of its high price tag, it is just out of range for most consumers)....MS made theirs on hardware....this is a problem....They had to realize something was wrong A LONG time ago...but I think they banked on the consumer just dealing with it....whoops....didnt happen...
and now with unofficial numbers starting to come out that the Wii is roughly a million units from being the #1 console with a year less street time...and that this past week was the first week of the PS3 outselling the 360....things may be headed south for the 360...
When the Wii passes the 360, and if the PS3 begins to pull away in weekly sales....I would honestly not be surprised if the 360 is MS's last console....Im not saying this is anywhere near close to happening...but with shareholders already not happy....i don't think they will stand for another basement dwelling console...regardless of the future business plan....its now or never for MS to right the ship...its doable...but can Sony and Nintendo strike the death blow? we'll see...

I actually think that Huxley will be one of the biggest 360 titles for 2008. I'm surprised no one mentioned that game. It's a FPS and a MMO. Do the math.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
STORY
Looks like X07 was cancelled to showcase 2 or more specific games in the devs home country. This was a slick move by MS after all.
Microsoft Plans Non-X07 Event In UK

After news broke that Microsoft wouldn't be going forward with its expected, not-quite-yearly X0 event for 2007, GamesIndustry received word from MS spokesfolk indicating that something else was definitely in the works. Only hinted at by Xbox group manager Aaron Greenberg as a potential replacement for X07 proper, the new event is scheduled for before the end of the year.
According to GamesIndustry's report, the unnamed event will have "a UK point of view" as opposed to a continent wide focus. With development studios Rare and Lionhead headquartered in the UK, it's possible that the event could have a much greater focus on titles that didn't appear at E3, including Banjo Threeie and Fable 2, among other unannounced games.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
Yea in my post above I said they would do a bunch of smaller events for each country. I personally think a big event is more effective as publicity but smaller events can reach out to more people for hands on.

We could try and have more impartial people posting news on this forum, but the way LoudNinja seems to be ****** all over whenever he posts negative 360 news here would make me shy away from doing it.

Unfortunately most of the stuff posted is either "a website said/ i read a rumour/a mag said..and 99% of it is negative oneupmanship in your face, hahaha your console/games is having problems and mines is not...rubbish.
And that goes for both forums.

Why do you think X07 was cancelled
