Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic Announced

It appears as though Konami is really into these digital comics. Not only are they making a digital comic compilation for Silent Hill but now we get this...

MGS digitally stripped for PSP

Konami brings interactive comic featuring Solid Snake and Metal Gear characters to Sony's handheld.

SAN FRANCISCO--The 2006 Konami Gamers' Day in San Francisco had more than just games on display today. Wilson Cheng, product manager at Konami Digitial Entertainment, said, "I am very happy to announce that Konami will be introducing a new type of genre that combines different types of media onto one UMD disc."

Thankfully for longtime Konami fans, the subject of the "new genre" is something gamers will be very familiar with. It also appears to answer questions raised by legendary designer Hideo Kojima, who recently told Famitsu that he was working on a non-game project for the PSP called Metal Gear Solid BD.

Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic (working title) is an interactive comic book-style story from franchise creator Hideo Kojima and producer Noriaki Okamura. Artwork will be provided by Australian comic book artist Ashley Wood, who fans may know from his work on Todd McFarlane's Spawn and the Metal Gear Solid comic books.

"MGS Digital Comic goes way beyond just clicking through scanned comic book pages," said Ryan Payton, international manager of Kojima Productions. "It provides an involved interactive experience as players must investigate the MGS story, link together plot points, and complete the puzzle of the Metal Gear narrative through multiple play throughs."

It's unclear just how interactive the comic will actually be, but a trailer shown at the event certainly confirmed it will be animated. Voice bubbles appear in sequence with the game's audio, and static images slide across the screen as comic-style effects like "Bang!" or "Pow!" appear onscreen when characters fire bullets.

Konami has not announced a release date or price for Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic.

This actually sounds rather interesting. Having Hideo Kojima personally invovled with this is what is exciting me more than anything else. What do you all think about this?

I posted this a while back, please search before you post a topic otherwise it clutters the forums.

However, since the last topic seemed to bite the dust resonably quickly ill run with this one and add some new info:

Quote:
Konami threw its Gamers Day bash in San Francisco yesterday where, amidst detailing its line-up for the coming year, served up a few ***-bits on the Metal Gear franchise.

Unfortunately, PS3's Metal Gear Solid 4 received zero coverage (shame, shame) but Konami did take the opportunity to reveal pre-order bonus plans for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Customers who pre-order Subsistence will receive a limited edition DVD called Metal Gear Saga 1, which traces the Metal Gear series' fictional timeline.

Konami's pre-order news was accompanied by a splash on Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic (working title), a specially created interactive comic that's to be released on PSP. It's been devised and created by Kojima Productions and, based on the existing Metal Gear Solid comic book, is a 3D medium that features sound effects, animations and music. MGS Digital Comic tells the full story of the first Metal Gear Solid adventure.

A release date for Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic is to be confirmed. We've uploaded a few images to give you an idea of what to expect.

And finally, new images of PSP title Metal Gear Ac!d 2 have been squirted out, with Konami excitedly describing the game as a "hugely expanded sequel boasting more cards, massively enhanced visuals, more intuitive control over Snake, and a unique 3D viewing system." Ac!d 2's storyline, in a nutshell, finds Snake attempting to halt the creation of a third generation Metal Gear mechanoid system. Good luck on that one, mate.

It may or may not please you to hear that this is not likely to be downloadable content, according tou eurogamer the comic that moves and has sound is going to be released on UMD.

Sorry about that man. I didn't find any results in my search. Regardless, I'm interested in seeing how they price this game and Silent Hill. It's interesting that Kojima is actually working on this. Hopefully we'll get some more information on this shortly. I'm pretty stunned that Konami has nine North American titles they are currently working on for the PSP.

This is similar to Silent Experience that is coming to PSP.

What I find sort of funny here is that Konami is taking a chance with these sorts of "non-games." I'm certain they hope to achieve a level of success that the DS has achieved in Japan with the non-game brand. I doubt they'll have that level of success but hopefully these games will be interesting nonetheless. They are incredibly cheap to make and Konami could pump out more of them in a second, with some of their other series. I wouldn't mind a Castlevania game like this and then they could give me a real CV title

so is this free or do we have to pay. I mean why are they keeping that part out?

Nothing is free in this world anymore, don't expect this to be any different.
