Just curious. I want to see which is the most common credit card people use for online payments.

I've used my Visa, Mastercard, or Amex. I will typically use my Amex though. I don't particulalry like to carry high balances if I can avoid it.

I always use a true Visa or MasterCard credit card and not a check card. This is so I have longer chargeback protection. Check cards are limited to around two months and credit cards are at least six months. Otherwise I have no preference.

FYI, Vis by far makes up the bulk of all credit card transactions with MasterCard a distant second. But you should also keep in mind that the type of card used will vary from site as each card has a different dempgraphic that uses it. A B2B site will see a lot of Amex but a frugal thrift store may never see one.

I use my Amex Open Card or my Visa WorldPerks card. Or for my personal purchases my Amazon.com Visa.

I like my Amex because I can put 20k on it and they don't bat an eye, very important for those large business purchases.

My Worldperks card only has an 8k limit (grr) and my main supplier doesn't take Amex so I try to put as much as possible from them on my visa. As such I keep everything else off that visa. Still, every once in awhile I'll have a 20k order with them and have to pay via check (no miles )

For personal purchases I like my Amazon.com platinum visa and use it for everything, online and off. It's got a nice limit, no annual fee of course, free travel insurance, all that other visa platinum freebie stuff. I get 3% cash back from Amazon.com, which is great since I shop so much there. Then I get 1% back elsewhere.

The one company I wouldn't recommend is Capital One. I do not recommend them for 3 reasons.

1. I think its crap how they advertise so much and send you so much junkmail and then say "If you sign up for our no-hassles card we'll stop." They should respect you more.

2. Capital One once called a customer of mine and asked if they made a purchase from "CBS Words.com" The customer was confused and said no. Later he realized his mistake and tried to stop the chargeback, Capital One refused. The customer had to give me a different card so I could recharge him.

3. I applied once for a capital one business visa card. The one they advertise with a limit up to 35k. Now, this is a business card, not a personal card, and I already had my Amex at the time with the high limit. Well Capital One was only willing to give me a $300 limit... on a business card. What can a business do with only $300? I have mid six-figures expenses yearly, and they give me a $300 limit? The only limit that low I ever had was my very first credit card when I had to secure it with a savings account since I had no credit history. Then here I am with a good credit history, high lines of credit elsewhere, applying as a business, and they give me $300.... needless to say I declined their generous offer.

Your poll isn't really structured right - it should allow you to choose more than one card type.

I have several credit cards and check cards and use them all for online purchases. I have 1 mastercard, and 5 visa cards.

amex for the most part. Aside from the occasional place that doesn't accept it, I would much rather run all business credit purchases through amex.

Yes i know people might use more than one type. But i wanted to find out the most common credit card between the two popular Visa and Master Card. So i expect people to choose the card they use mostly.
