I was wondering how much having a tribune pop-up when one first visits the site increased subscriber rates.

I was thinking about doing the same with my site but if the increase isn't too high I don't want to risk alienating some people (or just upsetting them) with a pop-up.

I believe that the pop-up only appears the FIRST time that you visit the site so if you choose to subscribe or not it only appears once. I am against pop-ups myself but the Tribune ones seems to have worked for SitePoint.

It's been around for a long long time now (Since the WR days), and I believe it works wonders for them, it was psoted in one of the issues of the tribune a long time back about how succesful it was/is.
