done with .psd design now what

hi friends,

i just got done with the design of an index page for a client of mine. Now that i am ready to go to dreamweaver I am not sure how to approach this project.

Should I use CSS for the layout of this site? Or just regular tables? I have not used css for a layout yet, so I dont konw if it will be a better fit for this specific design. As you can see its a pretty simple design. There are two drop down windows where you can choose your location. a photo in the middle, a few buttons, a logo and the white background.

Should I export the white background as one big graphic or should i just export the corners and edges?

any suggestions would be very helpful.
thanks a lot for reading,

florian

I'd do it with CSS. But you should use whatever you're more confortable with. If you have a bit of time to learn the 'proper' way of using table-less mark-up styled and formatted with CSS, then by all means go for it though. By 'proper' I mean not using <div>'s to rebuilt the <table>'s you got rid of (I see that happening a lot with newbies, and I was guilty of that also when I started). The idea is not to replace <table>'s with <div>'s, but to take a whole new approach with laying out pages.

If you do go with <table>'s, you can at least style and format them through CSS, so that's something.

c3dlc... unfortunately, I do not think that your message has anything to do with the issue and it is quite absurd... I am quite sure that it will be fun in the appropiate circle, but not here

floriauck, I have problems seeing your attachment (it says that it is pending approval, that may be the reason), I cannot suggest anything as I cannot see the layout. Sorry

I would say to try and code it using CSS, it seems a fairly simple layout to do

(x)HTML and CSS. Your biggest challenge is the centre pic, to get the quickest downloading time. You can use various approach to that, including dividing the image into pieces and load each piece in a div (maybe as a background would be better)

The rest is pretty easy and should give you no trouble at all.

I don't see much of a challenge there. Most of it could be done using background tiles. You would have to give up vertical centering though floriauck (actually, you would in any case) because your box has an outer glow on a gradient background.

Well, I said that the pic was the biggest challenge in that particular layout... not that the challenge was really big...

If you are looking to hire someone for the job, post in the Looking To Hire section. Good luck.
