How to let users download file from your web site

I want to allow users to click on a link and have it prompt them to download a Word document from my web site....

How do I do that? Do you need special software or a script?

Thanks in advance,
Clearweb

Nope... Just upload the word doc and make a link to it.

http://www.yoursite.com/word.doc

It will ask the user if they want to open it or save it.

Directly link to it, although that probably would open it in the browser - either tell users to right-click and save target as etc, or put it into a ZIP file and that will prompt a download.
