Tax and National Insurance aside, (Im UK based by the way) what exactly is the minimum requirements for trading good over the internet?

A case scenario:

I have access to supply of a product at trade price. I set up a website showcasing the product and want to sell it via Credit Card ordering ect.

What are my next moves (if any) to make this legal? Do I have to register the company, VAT etc etc?

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved.

It varies from location to location but pretty much... it's the same as setting up a physical business in your area. Check with your local authorities such as a tax office or govt. building to see. You'll most likely have to get a business license of sorts and maybe a DBA. I'm in the US though, so it may be a bit different.

I'd also reccommend getting a business checking account... keeping finances seperate is a good way to start off. It's much easier in the long run (especially at tax time)

We already have a separate bank account for this new venture. I did some snooping and apparently you can sell a certain amount of something as a private sale, and its only when you get to a certain number of sales that you have to go into the registering side of thing. Will do more research but if that turns out to be true then we will probably slap the site up and see what sales are like.
