Opinions on Merchant Accounts Express

Hi Everyone,

I think I have it narrowed down for a online payment processor, I hope.... has anyone heard/used/know if Merchant Accounts Express is any good? It's a reseller for Authorize.net in NH... If I went with this company, I would still need to get a shopping cart right? This company is just the processing part? I think I have that part done too but waiting for them to respond now to a few questions...

Any advice, greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Skye Merchant Accounts Express

They seem sleazy to me. Note that the page you linked to is just for merchant accounts and doesn't include Authorize.net fees. Their payment gateway page is very unclear on whether Authorize.net is free or not. Their sleazy salesman copy really puts me off in any case.

Hi Anode,

I just received the answers back on the shopping cart business and not sure if they sound awake or not, but it's eMartCart.com ?

Who would you suggest for a reseller for Authorize.net or is there a better one? As you can tell, I'm having a hard time with this one....

Thanks,
Skye

I like PayQuake personally. I use them myself, and they are very straightforward about rates(Authorize, net is 100% free) and have good service. They also have an option with no set-up or monthly fees (with a higher discount rate to make up for it) that works out very well for businesses that do low volume or are just starting.

I'd recommend osCommerce for a shopping cart. Changing the interface past the colors requires PHP knowledge, but it's free (and open source) so you could hire someone to work on it for you for the money you'd save on a commercial storefront(or you could just keep the original layout.)

I used them to setup my Merchant Account. They are not sleezy at all. If you contact them they will assign a contact person to you who will be more than happy to answer any and all of your questions. That's how they work. They deal with people who show interest, because they do business with more than just Web sites. They offer their services to brick and mortar businesses too. They do not pressure you AT ALL to take their services.

When using them you have to pay the standard Authorize.net fee of $15 a month. That is charged by Authorize.net directly. The other fees they mention are correct, but the "Discount Rate Mail Order/Phone Order/Internet" is really only that if you get enough orders every month to cover that rate, else you may have a montly fee to pay. I orginally setup my account to have a slightly higher rate with no monthly fee.

But it would be very much in your best interest to speak with Merchant Express directly to get more information on what they are currently offering new customers. They work with more than one bank in order to offer the best deal. When I was looking at them they were offering deals with 2 different banks and I picked the one that was best for me. Think of Merchant Express as more of a middle-man to access banks. After they set you up, you won't be dealing with Merchant Express, you will be dealing with the bank you finalize your deal with.

Also, the real HIT with Merchant Express is on the startup fees. So be sure you get all the numbers on that. Once you are beyond those startup costs you will be running smoothly.

Get information from as many places as you can, but I would recommend keeping Merchant Express in the picture. They have worked well for me.
