Do you think it is reasonably easy for a novice? I am truly green. This looks like a viable platform for the ecommerce side;
|
Apparently it is very very easy to set up into an existing site. Or you can use it as is. The out of the box solution is a CSS layout I believe. If you know html, then CF shouldn't be too hard too difficult to pick up - it is also tag based.

do you have a recommendation on the host side (server side scripting ?) - I'll use a shared server until I can justify a VPS.

Sure, I use - as do many other DW users I know,
www.crystaltech.com great prices and support is excellent.

I am learning Dreamweaver and am trying to leverage on existing products where I can without using a generic storefront.

Well, you can use DW2004 to build a shopping cart - there is a tutorial at the Macromedia site, but it may be beyond you at this point in time I guess it depends on how long you have before you need to get the website live.
You could also look at Yourvirtualstore
www.yourvirtualstore.com (there's a link at my website also under ecommerce). ASP solution, straight out of the box, but does take a bit of work to get it to integrate with your own design.

CSS templates are one avenue on my list (appreciate the signature/profile link).

Lots of CSS tutorials here at sitepoint and at the MM site to get you started with a full CSS layout. The layouts at my site of course can also be used for learning purposes :-)
Good Luck !
