VidPro, can you tell me what the TV cabinet/stand model is and if it's widely available?

Thanks,

Oops! Sorry I think I've infiltrated a Pioneer thread. Need glasses I think.

Hudson, after much searching to find a cabinet that would fit my equipment and my budget I happened upon this cabinet at Best Buy. It's normally priced at $399.99 but I got it on sale for $369. I added the smoked glass top for protection.

Interesting setup.

2 questions.

What is the panel behind your set for?

Do you find the 2 lights behind the set work well? Because they are only the set does it affect the PQ differently from the top of the set to the bottom?

CHolleman, they are Klipsch RVX-42 LCR speakers. Always been a big Klipsch fan and had large tower speakers before these but wanted to free up some space. They sound great although different from the tower speakers. I also have a Klipsch 12" sub as well.

VidPro,

How does that cabinet handle ventilation? I noticed that you have a DVR in there and I was just curious to know if there are any heat issues.

I am going for a setup very similar to what you have as I have a black center channel, black sub and of course a black 5070. Also pondering if a black component unit stand will conflict very much with my cherry set of other tables in the room; although I hear that is in style these days.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

On the left side where I have my AVR etc the back panel is removed to fit the Denon 2807 and there is obviously no heat issues. On the right side where you see the PVR the panel is still on to hide wires etc with I no heat issues with the PVR. The 360 and PS3 are another story. I have to open the door for ventilation . . . if I don't open the door the cabinet could be used as a second oven.

Angel,

Thank you - and no - I really get no glare at all with the plantation shutters closed. Sure if they're left open we get lots of glare but they really do a nice job of blocking out the light when closed.

Here's my new 4280, just installed in my basement system:

Other gear: Stand is a Whalen BBVC440SB from BB, AVR is a Denon 3300, DVD is an SD Denon 2200 (for now). The unit on top of the 2200 is an Outlaw Audio ICBM-1 Bass Management / xover for listening to SACD / DVD Audio discs, Speakers are Phase Technology PC-1's with PC-3 center and the sub is an SVS 20-39 Pci.

That is Auralex foam and bass trap wedges behind the system to absorb sound reflections from the alcove under the stairs where the system is located. There are 3 more bass wedges on the opposite wall, above the listening / viewing position.

Looks great,
Is there a significant differance with the bass traps?

Thanks,
Yes, the bass traps really helped solidify the bass in the room and especially at the listenng position. Without them, the bass was reflecting off the wall/ceiling boundaries and was a real "spotty". Now the bass is pretty much the same anywhere in the listening area.

Can anyone take a pic of their 5080 on its stand without the bottom speaker? I'm planning to get one in the near future and am curious as to how it would look on the stand without the speaker. I'll eventually wall-mount it, but that'll probably be a couple of years.

Thanks. That cabine is a Diamond Case TT-400 Credenza, here is a link,

http://www.diamondcase.com/TT/TT_HTML_Files/TT400.HTML

And yes, those are two 20-39 CS+. I need two because the room is 16x30 with vaulted ceilings, the room also opens up to our kitchen, so lot of sub is needed.

They are soon to be leaving when the new PBUltra from SVS comes out. My wife doesn't mind them much, but the living room would look better with a boxed sub that matches the furniture or speakers.

Thanks, yes height and the Center channel housing were my big issues.

It is 28" High, and there is only a 1/4" space on either side of that center channel, whew~

It will also hold up to a 60" plasma, just incase, LOL

The Potato Head is my Bass trap for my audio, LOL

Hi there I've just slipped into this pics and since been thinking for months about hanging my future plasma display on top of the fireplace, thinking about the height and being scared about neck wrest and pains. Your set looks very high, mine will be lower (110cm from ground), but how do you feel watching it? Do you end laying down on your sof??

BTW I'll also need some quality cables quite long like in your case, basically 2 Euro AV, 2 component and 2 HDMI. Any advise here?

i have a recliner front and center in front of the tv and it's comfy. as long as your furniture is far enough back, you shouldn't have any problems. stretching out on the long couch against the wall is great too. the only uncomfortable position is trying to watch from the small couch on the left of the tv, but no one sits there unless we have company over and no one is really watching tv anyways.

They are Energy e:xl 25's

Specs:

Frequency: 42hz - 20khz
Crossover 2.2khz
Power 15 - 150 Watts
Sensitivity 93db
Ohms 8

They are about 32" high, 7" wide, and about 10" deep.

They were a good bargain. Energy is the same company in Canada that makes Mirage I think. It is my Center Channel that kicks ass however. It is the Energy AC-300, one of the best around when I bought it/

Let me know if you need anything else.

This is the entertainment center if anyone is interested.. Looks much better in person than on their site (less wood grain and more toward a black look). It's a wonderful fit for the 5070 -- about a 4" border on each side.

stupid question but how come some of the pioneers set have speakers on the bottom and some have on the sides ? is it because of different models ? I kinda like the side speakers better.

Yes, different models. The Pure models (4270, 5070, 6070) and the Elite 940 have the speakers on the bottom, the Elite 1140 and 1540 have the speakers on the sides. You can look at Pioneer's website for details.

Hey Juan, I?m Erico from Uruguay. I have a system similar than you. I have the Nautilus 804, HTM2 (smaller than yours), Rotel power and a Plasma Elite Pro 1130.

My 'tv room' has a big fireplace on the one wall that right now my 32in CRT is sitting in front off on a 1ft high stand. Anyhow, I'm looking to put a plasma up above the fireplace (which is ~14ft from the fireplace, and the top of the mantle is 4.5ft tall. Couple of questions:

1) Has anybody attempted putting a tv up above the mantle this high and how far back are you?

and more importantly..

2) What do you do with your external center channel speaker? My center is a rear ported Dynaudio (~1ft deep, and ~25lbs), could you hang a 5070 on the wall with a 25lb center channel? The mantle above the fireplace is approx. 6in deep, so just "placing it up there" isn't going to work.

Thanks in Advance,

The "Too Much" performance is AMAZING in this video. Its worth getting just for that one song!

I didn't even try to take a good pic. The pic was taken with a Nikon D50. You can see the flash reflection. I should have put on the external flash.

For hints, have the room lit well, use a higher ISO if needed, fast shutter speed.
