|DVD CD Wont Recognize DVDs|
I have a Dell XPS 710 with a combination DVD-CD player (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N). In the past I have played DVDs and written data to them. This was a couple of months ago. I have since updated the Win XP software from my automatic updates.Yesterday Iwent to try to record a data DVD and the system does not respond - it keeps asking for a disk. I have tried several but it will not start a either a previously recorded disk, play a movie disk, or a brand new disk. The system will still play CDs- music, program ,and data. It is just the DVDs that aren't functioning. Any suggestions? I have run through the system help files but got nowhere. Since it has been a few months I am not sure if a system restore will work as I am not sure at what point it stopped responding to DVDs.
Two questions come to mind:
If I uninstall the drives in Device Manager will the operating system restore them on reboot?
I noticed some new drivers on the Dell CD/DVD site but didn't see my model posted. Will some other set work?
thanks for any help.
