Got myself a nice 1080p lcd over the weekend and im just interested to know if there are many ps3 games out or coming out this year that are 1080p.
I already know 3890 about Virtua Tennis 3 and Ridge Racer. Dont like those

I just checked all my PS3 games recently and noticed they all said 720p except Singstar. (Is Singstar 1080p?)

Which games are available that are 1080p and why are there not many around?
All the Blu-Rays are in 1080p so it seems a bit of a waste not using it. Is it because it slows the games down? I presume that's why UT3 is only 720p?

Aren't a lot of Xbox 360 games in 1080p?

There is a much better list here, where they actually take photos of screens and do pixel counting to figure out the native resolutions. In the link posted above they're not really testing 1080p, there are also a lot of exclusions e.g. Gran Turismo.

Quite informative, also gives a list of 1080p titles on the 360. Note that a lot of game boxes (cod4 for example) state that 1080p is available, but this is not a native resolution for in-game, it's used on the menu screens/intro sequences.

The only game i've played in 1080 is Tekken 5 DR, and you can certainly tell the difference.

Could you imagine the bad PR if Bungie/MS let let on that Halo 3 would be only 80% of the lowest HD resolution and scaled up? Or if Infinity Ward/Activision let on that CoD4 would only be 67% of the lowest HD resolution? They would never publicise that. Instead they just say 720p or 1080p because the image can be scaled up to those sizes. It's not until we have the games in our hands and people with 1:1 1080p TVs and digital cameras start pixel counting to work out the native resolutions.

So basically you can find out which games will support 1080p, but not which ones are actually running at 1080p.

Developers have to choose, supporting true 1920x1080p means you can't have as much detail in the 3D models and environments.

Personally I'd rather have more detail and have it upscaled like GT5:P does.

no there isn't because COD4 doesn't support 1080 natively, it's an upscale option for people who's TV's don't have 720p support that's why you have to mess with removing the 720p option for those that have it, if COD supported 1080 natively you wouldn't have to mess around with the res options.

But dont you have to de-select the 1080i and 720p settings to get 1080p? Is there any other way to get around it to show 1080p? It would be too awkward to change it every time I wanted to play a different game..

Call of Duty 4 is 1080p - got it myself and looks excellent ona 1080p LCD

I believe Call of Duty 4 has a not-quite-HD native resolution of 600p just like PGR3, and Halo 3 (which is 640p), but like these games it can scale that to 720p and like a lot of true 720p games it can also scale this image to a 1080p output.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is natively 1080p at 60fps, although not 1920x1080, it's I believe 1280x1080 which gets scaled horizontally, which is something that is quite common on PS3. For some reason I don't understand the human eye is much more perceptive to vertical resolution than horizontal resolution...? So scaling horizontally is much less apparent if you have the vertical resolution.

With a year before full GT5 comes out, optimisation may boost that to full 1920x1080 at 60fps, which coupled with the quality of the graphics assets in the game (much more important than native resolution in my opinion), would probably make it the most graphically impressive game on any platform this generation.

ninja gaiden is, cod4 (is but i think it upscales), ridge racer is i think, i dunno is v tennis 3 is aswell.

there not in 1080p because its hard to get games to run well at this res atm.

and i think the 360 just upscales.

The PS3's GPU is not powerful enough to render in 1920 x 1080, so all the 3D games will be stretched/upscaled anyway.
