Thats a nice jump, previous weeks sales kinda made me do a double take.

LBP is going to sell consoles for the next 12 months. Minimum.

good to see the PS2 is beating the Xbox 360, and the Ps3 beating the Wii

LBP really does it - that's a game that appeals to the japanese audience more than anything.

And stay tuned next week when the PS3 returns to it's floundering position in Japan. If LBP was a Mario game it would have sold half a million in Japan by now.

Nice bump, but 900% doesn't really say that much, consider it only sold 4k two weeks ago.

Secondly, there's nothing coming out for the Ps3 this week to keep the momentum going. So expect it to go down to sub 20k either next week or in two weeks.

Thats the point....it wont! Not until the PS3 have games that will continually push consoles in Japan over a period of time. Games like GTA4 and LBP will generate a couple weeks of decent sales and the go right back down, for now atleast. Sony needs a stream of games that can create good sales week after week.

Dont get me wrong though it was a GREAT week for the PS3....you cant deny that!

Im expecting LittleBigPlanet to do well over there, cute sackboys in a Mario type enviroment with the ability to create.

Sounds good, but lets hope it doesnt drop so fast. 900% doesnt mean much when it was selling just 3000. We need these kind of numbers weekly to get better and I see it happening, with price drop, advertisement, games like Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Resident evil 5, and then games like Final Fantasy 13, Versus, Last Reminant. We're still in the early years of PS3

here is the real question lets see if the PS3 will be able to keep up the sales

It's great if either the Xbox or the Ps3 sells better in Japan. That would only mean that the Japanese market will start focusing on making HD games. I like games on the handhelds and the Wii, but I think we need a little more Japanese games on HD systems. Especially JRPGs on the PS3. So the more sold the better the chances of seeing more games.

It will be Final Fantasy XIII that I think will start the train rolling for HD gaming in Japan. There hasn't been much that has appealed to the average gamer in Japan for HD gaming. MGS4 was a big title among gamers, but I sometimes have to explain to people here MGS. Everyone and their grandmothers know Final Fantasy.

that first part isnt quite true. PS3 sales in Japan are down almost 10% this year compared to last year.





and on a more general note, as skulpt has said a couple of times lately, sony needs to stop announcing new SKU's or Price Cuts and then offering no incentive to continue buying the current hardware, its just shooting themselves in the foot and they arent actually gaining sales. with this giant spike in sales, that brings sony's 10 week average , about how long ago it started decreasing in sales, is now 10,300. thats almost EXACTLY average for the PS3.

The 80GB was just released. Sales the last few weeks started dropping once the model was announced and they were running out of stock in stores. There was some pent up demand.

It's good news for the HD gamer that likes Japanese games if both the 360 and PS3 start doing better here. We have seen quite a bit of progress from the 360 as well. Sales dipped last week for 360 b/c of the newly released bundle.

The Wii doesn't do so well in Japan with 3rd party titles, unless it has a famous name like Dragon Quest or Resident Evil.

i saw this coming, the attach rate for wiis is dropping, there is an allure to them at first because of the novelty and the "ipod effect" (the fact that everyone owns one makes other people want one) but then people find out that there isn't much out there in terms of software besides mini game compilations and sports titles. Nintendo has made there millions so they have no incentive to further satisfy their fan base, especially since they have no new competition to fuel new innovation because they have detatched themselves from the rest of the hardware industry.

PS3 has been growing exponentially in every way since it's release; it has the definitive software lineup with more exclusives almost all of which are outpacing the competition in terms of quality and innovation very rapidly, a great online service that is free (which entails their huge list of top notch downloadable titles, video service, layout, messaging features, home, trophies, etc.) great console reliability, HDD, and bluray (all of which benefit developers as well along with the immense performance offered by the cell processor)

looking at the future Sony is looking very strong and i would bet money that they surpass 360 in worldwide sales next year. I do not really count wii in the next gen console war because it's specs, price, and target audience are aligned to compete with the ps2 (which btw has had a 9 year head start)

it was pretty cool a few days ago when i was playing GTA4 online with some friends. we just decided to mess around and do free mode. was interesting that the room filled up quickly with mostly japanese people.

we all had a good time enjoying the mayhem and carnage. no lag, all fun. i also was 1 that thought the game didnt have much appeal on the japan market.

little big planet probably helped raise the ps3's sales.

I took as he meant people in Japan. I'm not sure how many people are in Japan, but I'm sure a lot more wii's can still be sold there.

I hate that. If over 100 million bought both the PS2 and the PS1, I'm sure the Wii can reach big numbers - it won't just drop from being amazingly popular to zilch.

The only comparison I'm making here is the amount of people who are capable of buying the console, nothing to the systems themselves or the quality of the software or the appeal to the masses.

I was very impressed by PS3 even outselling the Wii. I believe PS3 will continue to build momentum from here on out.

I agree, they weren't ignoring the system but when the 360 had the RPGs to feed their hunger, you can't blame them.

They weren't ignoring the PS3, just the Wii was the choice for most people there. Now that the price is coming down and the selection of games is increasing PS3 is starting to do better.

I was actually a little surprised by the sales of GTAIV in Japan, just didn't strike me that it would have that much of an appeal there.

This is good news for Sony as the dollar is performing well against the yen. They need to boost domestic volume in order to bridge the split and maximize profits, now.

I sold my Wii to part fund my PS3. The Wii is a dust collecter. Only fun when you have friend/family round for a drink. I use my PS3 every day.

PS3 sales explodes XD and thats really epic
