It would be great as a consumer for this to happen but in no way do I see Sony pursuing this anytime soon. If anything make a bundle including a game and a blu ray film. Or a game with extra controller? Idk, but they aren't going to get more systems in households with a $399 price tag.

With Nintendo leading with the Wii there really is no point fighting for the lowest price just to gain a lead. Nintendo will sell great regardless of what price MS and SONY have on their console!

This time round SONY took the bigger move and kept the higher price. MS rushed their only good hand and lowered the price and for what? Sales will soon settle back to where they were before or perhaps a little higher with each system now $50 - $100 cheaper.

With Nintendo pulling these numbers theres no reason for SONY to try and fight price wise. People will buy SONY's system for what it is not what it costs. Microsoft has already proven this.

A glorified dvd player? A blu ray player with an additional feature to play games?

i dont actually record the famitsu numbers, but i can pretty confidently say that they are legit. i know there are some people on neogaf that record both and can give you a graph of them side by siade for either console, but really the differences are minute. no one console is treated better than others. the difference comes from the fact that both companies only track about 50% of Japanese retailers and extrapolate the rest, and those 50%'s are not necessarily the same.

You do realize that the 360 was beating the PS2 the last couple weeks without a major game release right? Not to mention the fact the PS3 was even lower than the PS2.

Fair point it outsold the Wii and 360, but the wii is doing crap compared to what it used to.

Ps2 has been beating 360 in sales as long as I can remember. If there was a shift in th sales, then it is not in my knowladge. The fact that a last gen console, which was released before xbox, and GC is still beating it in sales is quite overwhelming.

Yes, but if you look at sales trends for a good while the PS2 (a last gen console) was even beating the PS3 so your point doesn't really matter.

Well the PS3 beat a months sales of the Xbox360 in just one week...impressive.
Dsi is really doing it for Nintendo, but not for long I suppose.

As a few others have hinted one. LBP is a "viral" game. The more people that get it the more people that are going to want it. Especially with the Japanese gaming market having a trend towards local co-op play.

I think my point is still relevant. Just because the PS2 dominated Japan that doesn't mean that the PS3 will. In fact the PS3 has woefully underperformed in Japan since launch. Just like the N64 didn't replicate the Super NES' numbers in Japan or even worldwide.
