tools to monitor server load cpu ram etc

Hi,

Im looking for a script to live record the load average status of my servers and vps.

So a tool / script that can show things like cpu and ram load and usage, etc...

So does anyone can advice me on a software, tool or script that i could install at my server to monitor my server load usage.

Note: I would prefer a open-source of free tool, but im also willing to pay for a commercial solution.

So any advices or recommendations?

Hello,
I would recommend Munin. Can be integrated with Web Host Manager (WHM) and shows very nice graphs.

Munin will show these graphs (averages):

- Apache Processes, Accesses, Volume
- Filesystem Usage
- IOStats
- Mail Queue (Average count), Mail Throughput
- MySQL Queries, Slow Queries, Threads
- Network Traffic
- NetStat
- Overall Running Processors
- CPU Usage
- Load
- Memory Usage
- Swap In/Out

I would say this is what your after. Can be installed directly within WHM under "cPanel->Manage Addons".

Best of Luck.

Monit can do this if you enable logging mode... available at http://mmonit.com/monit/

Thanks for the advice

So any more advices on more alternatives?

Notes:
- It would be great if could integrate with WHM and if possible with also with plesk and even directadmin

- It also be great to really have a great looking interface. So any web 2.0 design like tools or ajax, or just simple beautiful html/php

Any ideas are welcome.

if you use monit, you can use it with m/monit which provides a remote web based GUI that is really cool. I use this to monitor our servers across many datacenters.

so until now thanks for all who give advices on my question.

So i suggest that we take this discussion regarding tools to monitor server load to a little bit higher level.

So in a simp,e way, lets try to reduce the options to stabe and rock solid solutions.

So as minimum standards i suggest:
- As to be a rock solid application
- Can be installed at the server
- Would be great it it has remote web based cool with a good looking interface design. This interface should be able to monitor multiples servers across many datacenters
- It also be great to have the option to show public reports and send it to our clients with the details or that as multiple user accounts each one with is own servers.
- And of course that has a good looking interface.

Note1: free or paid solution

Note2: Fell free to add any more advices regarding monotoring different servers at different datacenters.

any ideas or advices?

You can write bash script. Because, it will be more secured. Tools may have any vulneraibilities.

You can also use cacti.

If you are worried about vulnerabilities can secure it with a .htaccess which covers most of the problems with remote bugs.

True. We have our own set of bash scripts that handle monitoring and many basic to more advanced functions. I know that Evan once wrote a PingZine article with the full code in it. It was 4 or 5 issues back if you are interested in reading it (should be available on PingZine.com).
