Setting up static IP in DHCP network in different scope
Hi All,
I have been given 2 static IPs by my ISP. I have a cable modem that connect to a linksys router. The router is configured to assign IPs to the PCs on the network via DHCP. I need to assign a static IP to one server. The static IP works if i connect the server directly to the cable modem. But not through the router. can somebody suggest how i can resolve this issue? My static IP is in the range 98.175..... where as my router assign dynamic IPs in the range 192.168.1.....

What make/model device is supplied by the ISP? Usually with static multiple IP accounts, you get a combo modem/router "gateway appliance", such as an SMC model. You do the additional static WAN IPs via IP mapping.

Haven't worked with that one....sounds like a plain jane bridged modem though.
For multiple static IPs on those...you would uplink your modem to a "switch". Plug first router into a port on the switch, that router will get your first public IP. Plug your 2nd device into the switch also..such as your second router..and that will get your second public IP address. Put your server behind that second router..and open/forward the necessary ports you need.
