HOW TO Connect Ubuntu to interoperate with my Windows Network

hi, how are you doin?
pls i need your help, i have a windows LAN network with Internet connection and i also have a pc with Ubuntu, the problem is that i tried to connect the pc with Ubuntu O.S to my LAN but it was not working there is even no a single sighn of connectivity. even when i chek the workgroup of my other windows O.S pc, i did not see the pc with Ubuntu. pls really do need you to help me out. thanks

pls note: my Ubuntu version is 7.4
