Big problem with USB ports

I`m using Ubuntu 5.04 on a laptop FSC Amilo A 7600. I have 3 usb ports and a usb mouse, attached to the first one. I have no problem with mouse, but when I try to attach it to some of the other usb ports it doesn`t work. If I try to attach a usb memory stick to the second or the third port it doesn`t work either. The usb stick is recognized 1f40 if it is`s only attached to the first port. But at the same time my touchpad doesn`t work on ubuntu, so I need the first port for the mouse. How to make all of my usb ports to work?
Thanks!

Big problem with USB ports

One first step I would take is to take a look at /var/log/messages after you try to plug a device into the second or third USB ports. Your logs are going to be your best friends here, though you may not be able to immediately realize the significance of what they're telling you. However, if you get some information and come back to the forms, you may be able to jog people's memories enough to have them help you out a little more.

It could be a range of reasons at this point. One question is, do you know if ACPI is enabled on your laptop?
