I cant get System Administration options working General Help Question

Question I cant get System Administration options working ( Ubuntu Forums General Help )

I cant get System Administration options working I go to the Updater and nothing comes up and i go to the Synaptic Package Manager and nothing comes up. I'm in the Master account and its like I don't have Admin permissions. Can any one help?
