ok so i used gparted to partiton..one for xp and one for ubuntu...but now i want to take out the winxp partition and join it with the ubuntu one. how would i do that? cuz i deleted the partition but now its 21 GB of nothing laying around in my hdd.

You have to use gparted from either the Ubuntu LiveCD or the GParted LiveCD, http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php.

i did use the one on the ubuntu live CD. thats the one thats not letting me combine the 2 partitions into one big single one.

Try the GParted LiveCD. Otherwise, post a screenshot of Gparted window with your harddrive on it.

thanks the liveCD worked perfectly it allowed me to combine both the partitions.
