Memory Useage

Hello all,

I am running Kubuntu 5.10 and I have a problem with some programs starting extremely slow (firfox etc). I have 1 gb of memory. When looking at my memory useage I see that I only have about 40 megs free physical and that my swap is completely unused. 35% of my memory is taken up by applications and 54 is taken up by Disk Cache.
Is it normal for the memory useage to be that high? Is it also normal for 1f40 the Swap file to be completely empty?

Thanks!

Memory Useage

Linux usually holds plenty in the disk cache, this is intentional and by design. Unused memory is wasted memory.
