16 10 update
Am buying a new monitor and needed to know if the 360 supports 16:10 yet.
Anyone in the UK got any recommendations for one for under ?200?

I have a 16:10 monitor and i have no problems.
The new XNE update should have that if i remember correctly.

doesn't it stretch or crop the image?
|
|
16 10 update
Well if it crops the image, i wouldn't notice. If it does, then it's minor. 1280x768 is a 16:10 resolution compared to 360s 1280x720. The image doesn't look stretched at all.

I'd go with the second one.The first monitor only has the response time advantage, but 5ms is more than enough.

Well the new one is 16:9 and pretty much has the same stats + HDMI, it's a good choice. It doesn't show it in the specifications though.Samsung monitors are usually higher quality, but this eliminates the 16:10 problem.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I've changed my mind again.......
I still can't decide between 16:9 and 16:10
Is it really a 20% loss in screen size? (thats what i read...)

|
16 10 update
There might be some loss, but definitely not 20%.
Here are some 16:10 monitor pictures.
If you're not sure, just buy the 16:9 dell monitor.

The 16:10 update will be live with the launch of NXE

I think he already answered your question but just to confirm, the new update officially supports 16 by 10 resolutions, it doesn't stretch it anymore.

I have a 22in LG lcd monitor. From what I've tried, the 360 supports 1680x1050 (my native res) and 1440x900. I'm not sure if it does 1280x800 as well. Also, the 360 adds black bars to keep the aspect ratio from stretching vertically. The good thing is that the bars don't take up much space. Just a little on top and below.
@Naxi
What resolution are you using with that monitor? If that was a 16x10 res, it should have black bars as well. You mentioned 1280x768. I don't think that's a 16:10 res (it's 5:3 I believe). 1280x800 is 16:10

I have a Samsung 2232gw with a 360 hooked up to it and I love it. It runs 1680x1050 and I run the xbox at 1280x1024 and it looks really good. I don't think anything is really cut off from it. However, if you bump it up to 1920x1080 it takes away a good bit of space, I could almost believe its in the 10-20% range.

16:10 friendly is one of the best features of the NXE.
That plus 6 way chat and HDD installs.

I believe that's a 22in monitor and like most 22in LCDs, its highest supported resolution is 1680x1050, which is the reason why the screen gets cut off or something when on 1080p. If you have NXE now, why don't you try using 1680x1050. There may be black bars to preserve screen ratio but it should look much better than 1280x1024 since that's its native resolution. Besides, doesn't 1280x1024 look kinda weird to you (It stretches the screen a bit for me)? I think that res works better on a 4:3 monitor than on a widescreen one

Yeah, you might be right. Some games have 768 as 16:10 for some reason though. Those aren't my monitors.

cool - been useful reading some of this; I'm not really sure of the benefits of 16:9 now to be honest, because by the sound of it some dvd / divx files will still have (granted smaller) boarders and some games will not support widescreen AND I'll lose a fair bit of space on my desktop.
Think I'm going to go for the samsung.

Yeah its a 22in LCD. I don't have NXE yet, but being able to use my monitor in its native resolution is one of the features I'm most looking forward to. My choices right now boil down to 1920x1080 with a good bit of the picture being cut off or 1280x1024 with the picture stretched a bit. For me the stretch isn't real obvious in game but the missing pixels on each side are. When NXE comes out I'll use 1680 with the black bar.
