Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? self install, fresh

not a prob, only question:
how do i access root directory for rank .gifs?
how do i add to directory, ranks for profiles- not create ranks but the icons for ranks?
FAQ says:
Rank Image - This is a small image that is normally shown directly beneath the rank title. The image must be a png, gif, or jpg image, and the path specified must be relative to the phpBB 2.0.0 root directory. So if your forum index was at http://www.cheese.com/phpBB2/index.php, and a rank image at http://www.cheese.com/phpBB2/images/ranks/teh_rank.gif, then you would enter "images/ranks/the_rank.gif" to display that rank.

If you haven't made any file modifications, then the fastest way to update is to overwrite all the files (except config.php) with those from the Full Package, here. Then point your broswer to http://{your_forum}/install/update_to_latest.php.

i dont write code, except simple BBCode.
do you mean to re-install or upgrade my current forum or do you mean to start over?

1stly, i simply went to a link that claimed Free Forum Creation- or something. then i DLed what they had for me there.
i didn't know i needed an update.
is it too late?
2ndly, i have a URL. i've been working on appearances and bells and whistles. i put down that the forum is not running yet to simplify matters.
by webhost, do you mean like "domain"?
Now, FTP- which client is best?
or, how do i access File Manager?
u can tell i'm new.

How can you access your forum if you don't have a URL yet?
The current version of phpBB is 2.0.22. Why are you trying to install something called "2.013" ?
phpBB does not control your directory access, you do that via FTP to your web host's server. Do you have a web host?

You just did a fresh install and it's version 2.0.13? The latest version is 2.0.22, you really need to update or do a new install with the latest version.
You will need to upload the images to the directory using an FTP client or your site's file manager.

Your board must be on a "free forum host" then. We could have told you that if you'd revealed the address of your board to start with.
They don't give you direct access to the phpBB files, so there is little the way you can do in the way of upgrades of MODs. That is why we do NOT offer support for these free forums, you must et it from the people who supply the board.
Also, I suspect you are mistaken about the phpBB version, are are instead looking at just the version of the theme you are running. The phpBB version is displayed in the Admin Panel.

What they mean is they have disabled that option to stop you easily moving your board to your own website. Ask them for a backup. They will probably ask you to pay from $20 to $50 for it.
These are the drawbacks of using a free forum host, rather than running a REAL copy of phpBB on your own website.

i began with rank Q and now i wonder if i am supposed to UL my phpBB forum to my new host site. cuz, THAT i dont know how to do.
what am i not getting....besides the multitude that is computer programming?
