Sonys response to Infamous Length

Quote:
Sucker Punch hasn't worked out how long its openworld superhero game inFamous will eventually be despite (admittedly jokey) reports to the contrary stemming from our live interview with Nate Fox last week.

Poor old Fox had simply been answering a handsome question from a handsome person about whether long games were sustainable in the current climate of rising dev costs and falling share prices, and he said - citing GTA IV and God of War - that "it seems to me that it's not about length, but about quality", going on to add that inFamous will place the highest value on quality, obviously.

This led to suggestions around about the internet that inFamous might not be very long, but speaking to Eurogamer today publisher Sony refuted this. "inFamous is still in development at Sucker Punch," it said, "and the game's length is still to be determined."

The full game is due out next spring, and you can read more about how it's shaping up in the transcript of our live interview with creative director Nate Fox. Although try to then avoid going on forums and claiming it's going to be full of child-abusing marsupials or something. Goodness.

Still interested in this game regardless.

he majority of games on the PS1 and PS2 were between 12-20 hours of gameplay. Now they are between 6-12, if that sometimes. Games have gotten alot shorter.

If i remember correctly these guys made the last sly cooper game which was criticized for being too short as well. I think it was like 4-5 hours long or something

I might be wrong though

Sonys response to Infamous Length

Sonys response to Infamous Length

good one vegan, I'm still laughing.

I think for an action game 8-10 hours is usually just right, some games are so good though that you don't want them to end so soon.

Sonys response to Infamous Length

im fine with a short game as long as it has a ton of replay value

I myself much prefer games with limited saves and only in certain places.
Alot like the early RE games. I have no idea how they do it now.

I'm trying to play this way through Fallout 3, but even that auto saves all the time for you. Which turns the games hard points more into a ground hog style game were i just keep repeating untill i get it right.

Having waffled on, my point is......
oh yeah now adays with all the hand holding games give you, they need to be longer.

Sonys response to Infamous Length

if this game is shorter then 8 hours, i wont get it...
it will be a waste of 60 dollars... all games should be at least 11 hours long

I was one of the peeps that loved Heavenly Sword.. and I actually put a fair bit of time into it. Even the story took me at least 10 hours, but I replayed a few levels here and there to get better scores.

If Infamous is the same length, it probably won't bother me - and this one will have loads more to do in terms of free-roam

And I for one hope it does not. From what we know about the story Co op has no place in a game like this.

Sonys response to Infamous Length

This game looks really good and I am really looking forward to it. it is up there on my top 5 list for next year. As long as the game has a lot do to in the city itself. It's open world with a person who has super powers. How much fun would it be to just run around and blow everything up. The story only has to be about 10 hours, but I think people will play it longer than that.

Sonys response to Infamous Length

Sonys response to Infamous Length

it can be 5 hours and I'll still get this game

Sonys response to Infamous Length

Don't know about you but most of the games in the 90's actually only lasted 2-6 hours, games nowadays are actually much bigger than before on average.

A single-player game, IMO, has the best playtime around 8-15 hour mark. If it's too long, I wouldn't bare to play it again. Just look at Uncharted, punched that one in barely 8 hours. Dead Space in 12. Perfect playtime for a SP game and it gives you the urge to play it again sometime since it's not too long.

Sonys response to Infamous Length

Agreed, there are too many people that have very pre-set ideas on game length and a lot of games get un due criticism because they 'only' last 10/12/15/20/25 or 20 hours (delete as appropriate.)

In fact quality should be the only measure and because games are so variable it's even harder because while an RPG may only last 100 hours, something like SOTC might be 5 hours of just immaculate fun.

Gears was around 12 hours I think? But it was a fantastic 12 hours that made me want to play again. so that's about 20+ hours now not including on-line.

Games nowadays are selling to an audience that has so little time on it's hands it's going to be a mad dev that sets the time invested bar so high it is willing to risk excluding a large portion of it's customer base just so it believes it has achieved a certain level of game play that it imagines people expect.

Some people just prefer longer games.

Personally, if a game has both quality and quantity I see no problem with long games as I just want to continue playing.
Even if it's not a RPG.

well since it is coming around next march or so then i don't expect for sony to know about its length just yet, there is still time. i want this game to last atleast 15 hours, this game looks sick

You gotta remember there are alot more shooters now, and they have always been pretty short, RPG's are as long as ever from what I have seen.
