Categories Forums and Sub forums
LIVE EXAMPLE: http://neo.brainformation.com/viewforum.php?f=44
I created a category called Special Interests. Under that category I created a forum called Humor. Humor has two sub-forums called Adult Humor, and Funny Stories. The registered users permissions for the Humor forum are set to read-only, while the permissions in the sub forums are set to normal access.
My intention here was to have two distinct types of humor forums accessible from the index page, and that actually is working as expected. However, when viewing the Humor forum (in the above example), a message appeaars under the search box telling me "There are no topics or posts in this forum." I'm sure it is a reference to the Humor forum and not the sub-forums. Depending on the style used, there may be an empty table accompanying the message.
Given that I do not want posts in the Humor forum per se, but I do want them in the sub-forums, the above message (and tables) are distracting, if not confusting, to the casual observer. I can't find a way to configure the board so that the "no posts" message does not appear. Is there a way to get around this problem?

Categories Forums and Sub forums
Change "Humor" to a category-type forum, but keep it as a child of "Special Interests."

Or leave it as a forum, but set its permissions to read-only.
Nope... That still leaves that message in there
Making it a category should fix it Brf

Changing Humor to a category as a child of Special Interests does eliminate the message. Unfortunately, it also turns Humor into a separate category containing two forums. As such, this suggested layout separates Humor from the Special Interests category of which it was formerly a part.
Plus, the two sub-forums disappear and become regular forums under the Humor category. I suppose that makes sense because sub-forums should be children of a forum not of a category. However, that is not the look I"m going for. I want it all to look like the sample link, sans the bogus message.
After playing with it for a while, I didn't think it was going to be easy, and perhaps not even possible.
