I think most governments have departments like that, looking for illegal activities
The weird thing is what the Chinese government consider to be illegal. They are a bit - hmmm - orwellian...

My literature site is.

I thought maybe it would be blocked (if blocking is automatic) since in the user comments section for Animal Farm and 1984 (both by George Orwell) people have expressed dislike for the Chinese Gov.

We host a website Charity in Tibet, which helps street kids and stuff, so that site is actually a godsend as I can ensure our servers aren't being blocked

Please note: In the following statements, I am speaking about my own personal websites or projects outside of SitePoint or vBulletin.com. These are my personal opinions and in no way reflect the opinions of anyone else at those companies.

I truly don't mind if the Chinese cannot view my sites. I don't market to them, I don't wish to market to them or incur the expense of marketing to them.

My websites most likely will never be geared towards non-english speaking customers for the most part. Not that I don't think their money isn't any good nor that I am prejudiced against them. It is because I personally cannot spare the expense to cater to them. Also several of the sites that I work on are not allowed to export their products anyway because of customs, tariffs and other regulations.

For the average webmaster, being banned from China will not have any effect on their sales or marketing. The idea that every website has to be a global marketplace is a fallicy that needs to be overcome if this medium is truly ever going to mature and be a sales and advertising force in the world.

Wayne I pretty much agree really. While its interesting to see its not exactly life changing.

I actually dount that many Chinease people will either be bothered to struggle through translating to english as they go or run it through a translation engine.

I expect once I get HilariousMinds.com up and running it will end up banned - I'm certainly not gonna hold back the political comedy so the odd chinease visitor can get on the site

Its still interesting to see what the chinease authorities think of your site

Well at least they can still get SP and SPF (how could they survive with out it )

Most of the sites I am invloved with are accessible...

I hear its illegal in China to sell something as 'the Best', such a hard life

Still having seen the amount of trouble schools etc have to go to in the UK to filter out unsuitable (porn, racist etc) material from the Kids, its alot easier for concerned parents in China to leave their Kids surfing away (not that thats the reason its all censored though)

Anyways, anyone have a site that is banned?
