Mass E Mail is Randomly Not Functioning
Ok, I have a problem with my Mass E-Mail function in the ACP. When I send a Mass E-Mail to any usergroup or to all members, it says that the e-mail has been sent but, when I check my e-mails, the mass e-mail isn't in my Inbox. I asked others if they had received the recent Mass E-Mails and they have all said "No". So, my forum isn't able to send out Mass E-Mails. This is odd because I have the PHP mail() function enabled by my web host and my forum can send out e-mails for private messages and watched topics but not Mass E-Mails.
Does anyone think they know what the problem is?

Mass emails are sent as BCC mails and you host will probably have blocked such mails in an attempt to stop their mail server being used for spamming purposes.
Your problem is one that we are getting reported several times a day.
One option is to install the Starfoxtj Admin Toolkit and then use it to export your users and emails as a CSV file that you can import into your email client and send using that.
You could ask your host about this but don't hold your breath.

I had a feeling this was a frequently asked question. Thanks for the reply.
The weird thing is that I can send a Mass E-Mail to only one usergroup which means that Mass E-Mails can be sent...but only to that usergroup. It's weird.

Is it the smallest usergroup?
If so it may be that the block is not strictly on all BCC mails but on identical mails that exceed a given number.
There is a Mod called Megamail that some folks have had success with that takes the list of recipients and breaks it into small sections the number in each section being lower than the hosts cut off limit.

Yes the group is small and only contains like two or three members.
I just contacted my web host and they told me that they disabled mass e-mailing. I think it's odd that when I had free hosting with this company they enabled mass e-mailing but, now that I'm paying for hosting with this same company, they disabled it. Kind of funny, eh? So much for more bang for your buck.
I'm going to try that exporting Mod that you suggested in your first post and it'll do fine. Thanks again.

It is a sad fact that more and more hosts are placing restrictions on the sending of mail due to the problem of spamming. There are even some free hosts that have completely disabled the mailing system so that not even activations or topic replies work.

is it possible to get an error message on the board that the mass mailing did not go for the same reason?

If you have made no changes and ordinary mails such as registrations and internal emails and PM notifications are sent then it is probably some change the host has made whether there is an error message or not.
Sometimes even topic replies are not sent except to the first person.
Another reason can be the recipients mail system putting them into the "spam" box. This is common with Yahoo. Gmail. AOL and one or two others.
We see several of these everyday now as hosts attempt to stop their servers being used for spamming. And who can blame them when they could potentially have their server black listed.
I think when mail stops working the first "port of call" should not be here but the host as they are the ones with control over the mail server.
